Elections are in November.

I've been following Ottawa's election, and already it has turned into a partisan race, even though it is official non-partisan.

So far the main candidates are:

*Mayor Bob Chiarelli (former Liberal MPP)
*Terry Kilrea (Conservative)
*Alex Munter (unofficial NDP) - former city councillor, ran for the NDP in the 1990 provincial election

I am quite pumped, Alex is very popular, and has a good chance of winning.

There are also races in most other municipalities, but I don't know much about them yet. Toronto will be a big one.

Bump.

I've begun working at the Munter campaign office.

alexmunter.ca

Quite an unholy alliance of our support. Traditional left wing central Ottawa and Munter's former council seat of Kanata (a Conservative suburb). These two places have our best support so far. We've led in every single poll I've seen so far Cheesy

Well, I've been working on maps for the campaign (as is my specialty). We are waiting for the city to release the municipal poll maps, which should be interesting.

I can give you one map though, Al: of my prediction Smiley

Green - Munter Wards
Red - Chiarelli Wards
Blue - Kilrea Wards
Pink - Toss ups

Moreso than they were. These new wards are brand new for this election.

Population data can be found here: http://www.ottawa.ca/city_hall/ward/reports/recommendations/appendix_a_en.html

Here's some of the campaign team marching at the gay pride parade this afternoon. (Photographer: me). Alex is on the far left getting hugged.

Update

Six days left.

Alex has continued to lead the polls, but it has always been pretty close. The mayor has tanked, and is trailing badly now, with fiscal conservative candidate Larry O'Brien trailing Munter by two points and gaining momentum.

I've been doing quite a bit of campaigning (among other things) which is why I haven't been to active on this board.  But anyways, this looks like it's coming down to the wire.

By the way, here are some election signs Smiley
