I'd vote pro-life Democrat.

Pro-life Democrat.  I'm pro-choice, but I can understand the position of the pro-lifers, and abortion is certainly not the most important issue out there.

Option 2 most certainly exists.

Option 1 in this hypothetical scenario, though usually a pro-life Democrat would be conservative on some other social issues.

Agreed. If it's Bloomberg vs. Zell Miller, anyone sane is going to have to go with Bloomberg.

Abortion is really the only issue that keeps me siding with the Republicans most of the time.

well this proves that Jake is a one-issue voter.  And it proves that it is possible to win more socially conservative people over if we just stop being so vehemently pro-abortion.

That's not always true. Look at former Rep. John LaFalce for example.

I don't recall every mentioning any such criteria.  But certainly it is a comical inconsistency to claim one's ideology is pro-'freedom', and also wish the State to control the internal organs of some citizens.

opebo, you're missing the big picture here.  Nobody who is pro-life opposes abortion because they want the State to "control the internal organs" of people.  To imply as such is intellectually dishonest.

Being pro-life is not inconsistent with an ideology that favors the expansion of civil liberties.

Certainly it is.  One is not 'at liberty' if one may not remove various inconvenient parts of/parasites upon one's body at will.

How about a pro-life Republican who was otherwise liberal on everything else, would you choose that over its opposite? Tongue
