From Harrys's Place:

"Dear Colleague,

OPEN MEETING WITH HIZB UT-TAHRIR
WEDNESDAY 1 MARCH 2006,
HOUSE OF COMMONS

In August 2005, Tony Blair announced his 12-point plan for new anti-Terror measures which included a ban on the organization Hizb ut-Tahrir although documents leaked to the New Statesman make clear that the literature of the organization explicitly rejects the use of violence.

Hizb ut-Tahrir have been approaching Parliamentarians to explain who they are and what they believe.
Following such a meeting in my constituency, I volunteered to facilitate a meeting at the House of Commons so that Parliamentarians can decide for themselves whether the organization should be banned.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 1 March 2006.

I am enclosing a message from Hizb ut-Tahrir overleaf.

Yours Sincerely,

Clare Short''

What a wonderful PR stunt by a horrible racist, sexist and anti-democratic organisation. Will they be inviting the BNP around for tea and scones next?

Not that bloody woman *again*; the only reason why she wasn't deselected last election is because the three main factions of the Ladywood CLP hate each other more than they hate her... even *Godsiff* (who only clings onto his seat via ward suspensions and GMB block votes; he's quite the old fashioned "fixer" actually...) has more genuine support in his CLP than she does hers...

Yes. Back in the '80's. IIRC she's giving it another go now.

ugh. What a dumb prude. You really need to get rid of her. The fact that Labour has so many prudes is why I would be very reluctant to vote for them (even without Blair), I believe you also once had an MP who said something along the lines of that she considers a nanny state to be a positive thing.

I agree about getting rid of her (but for different reasons). Problem is that all the different factions in the Birmingham Ladywood CLP hate each other more than they hate her. Inner City politics can be so [expletive deleted] at times...

Well Labour has *always* had a very strong moralist streak (the main forerunner of the party, the ILP, was founded in a Methodist chapel in Bradford and many of it's founders were prohibitionists), more so in some places than others.

Margaret Hodge? She's still an M.P; still a Minister as well.
