Withnail & I

A defining work in the history of western civilization.

How it must hurt to never play the Dane!

tried to watch Point Blank last night on Netflix streaming....gritted my teeth through most of it because I like Mickey Rourke, but finally turned it off after it was obvious it was one of those movies which openly mocks your tolerance of bad movies.

1 out of 5 stars - and that is being generous

The Way Back.  Even though it came out in 2010, I had never heard of it.  It was available on Netflix and was directed by Peter Weir so I gave it a whirl.  Maybe it was having low expectations but I loved this movie. Beautifully acted and shot.  One downside is that for long stretches of the movie I couldnt tell several characters apart.

Cowboys & Aliens

I don't really understand the critics' beef.  Sure, the premise was odd and CGI aliens are CGI, but the negatives really ended there.  The acting was good and the cinematography was solid.  The story moved along at a decent pace, too.  Frankly, it was a better alien movie than Super 8.

I highly recommend giving this movie a chance if you have nothing better to do this weekend.

American Graffiti.

It now feels as if I've known Jmfcst my entire life.

Didn't really like the movie that much though. Seemed a bit cliched and I didn't really feel involved in the characters.

That's because George Lucas directed it.

There are Americans over 40 who haven't seen American Graffiti? Interesting.

Just went to see Horrible Bosses...so much fun. Charlie and Jen were amazing together and the whole movie was exactly what I had hoped for. I never expected Jen was capable of that kind of humor and I can't believe she didn't jump into it sooner.

I heard it was overrated and Attack the Block was much more worthy of going to see. It was really that good?

While I imagine Attack the Block is awesome, Cowboys and Aliens was a good summer movie.

Watched Darkness Falls with my cousins. Last time I take movie advice from anyone. It sucked. The premise was interesting, and the acting decent, but the script and plot were so bad I cringed numerous times.

X-Men: First Class

Definitely the best comic book movie since The Dark Knight. I'm quite thankful they didn't focus on Continuity Porn type things since I was never into the X-Men comics or cartoon, besides the hilarious Wolverine cameo and a few shout outs to the present day movies.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes - absolutely loved it.  The nods to the original were great, and all the actors were spectacular.

That's good to hear. My dad and I were thinking of seeing that this weekend.

Rise of Planet of the Apes.

The Apes were great characters and you actually rooted for them.  This movie definitely demands the sequel.

Franco, Lithgow, and Pinto were all kind of slight in how much I cared about their human characters despite the amount of screen time.  It actually reminded me of Transformers, except with an actually interesting story.

I recommend seeing it.  It's better than Burton's movie and likely the start of a franchise you will eventually be encouraged to see.  But I would be lying if it weren't a little flawed.
