Monsters. It was okay, but really didn't have much to do with the actual monsters. Also, the ending was ridiculous.

I saw Source Code over the weekend. I thought it was pretty solid though it got kind of predictable (it wasn't hard to identify the villain) it probably should've ended about 10 minutes before it actually did (one of those movies where there's a scene that would be the perfect ending but it kept on going).

Insidious

I don't usually watch scary movies, so forgive me if I seem easily scarable. However, the movie seriously creeped me out, and whenever something popped up unexpectedly like one of those demons, the use of music (especially volume) literally had the hair standing up on my legs. Also, now I'm afraid to look into mirrors and reflective windows, and afraid to turn around. Tongue My brother is experiencing similar symptoms.

Most recent movie in a cinema was Never Let Me Go and before that, it was True Grit.

On DVD, I re-watched The Ballad of Cable Houge. That is a truly epic movie.

Your Highness.

Enjoyable, despite not advancing the art of film one bit.

Hanna.

This movie had a very interesting directorial style considering the plot, but it worked. The middle lagged a bit but the beginning and end more than made up for it. And don't overlook it because of the rating, you'll never notice that it's PG-13. It wouldn't have been in the 90s.

It's pretty good.  I imagine the damn awesome part is due to Your Highness being the most current definition of "movie" in your subconscious.

I liked Your Highness.  I realize as a film...its well...not going to win critical praise...but I enjoyed it.

I'm a big fan of epics.  I admit, this is like the second one ive seen and purchased (the other being the passion)...of the more religious nature...(i usually stick to the historical epics: Gladiator...Kingdom of Heaven...Braveheart)...but for the most part that was due to my bias against older movies more so than the overtly religious nature.  My collection and tastes tend to skew heavily towards movies from the 1980s and later.

What do you think of Ben Hur?

When I saw it when I was 12 I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. I should probably watch it again.

Your Highness by the way was directed by a very talented director who has made some excellent indie dramas. He did Pineapple Express kind of as a joke, so I'm hoping he hasn't decided to just do only stupid comedies from hereon, even though Pineapple Express and Your Highness each have made more than all his previous movies combined.

I enjoyed it.  I think my main problems with the older movies are 1) the special effects require more suspension of disbelief...and 2)  they're a little more campy/more sanitized/general audience...occasionally too family friendly...to the point they seem unrealistic...if that makes sense.

But Ben Hur and Ten Commandments...wow...very enjoyable.

Blue Valentine. Very, very good movie. But quite sad. Still feel a tad depressed. Then I watched The Fighter. Not all that original, but quite moving. I loved Amy Adams acting. She definitely has talent. I liked her in Junebug as well.

Ok...so far Ten Commandments is pretty damn awesome.

it gets a little boring after the Exodus, but before that point is it truly a work of art.

My two favorite scene are:

1) Dathan (Edward G Robinson) revealing to Rameses (Yul Brynner)
who killed the master builder Baka (Vincent Price)

“I will bargain with you.
If what you say pleases me,
I will give you your price,
all of it.
If not,
I will give you the point of this blade through your lying throat.”

Edward G Robinson and Yul Brynner simply ran away with that movie; they were, by far, the most interesting and entertaining characters, IMO.

2) Nefretiri’s (Anne Baxter) fake seduction of Rameses

“Remember, my sweet,
that you must be wife
to the next Pharaoh.
You are going to be mine,
all mine,
like my dog or my horse or my falcon.
Only I will love you more
and trust you less.“

Just goes to show a movie script doesn’t have to contain bad language in order to be bad arse.

There are many veiled references in the movie to some really bad sh**te going on (he doesnt want me for my water...being beautiful is a curse for our women etc)...the late 50s were filled with that stuff...hence the "need" for the MPAA/ratings system.

Highly recommend the Jimmy Stewart Legal Drama...Anatomy of a Murder...great story...and definitely pushing the edge of what was acceptable in mainstream film.

Chief Wiggum and Edward G. Robinson sound very similar...I dont think that was Azaria's plan from the start but it certainly has led to some great simpsons episodes.

Now don't get me wrong.  12 Angry Men is a great movie...but I'm looking to watch a legal drama...give me Anatomy of a Murder or Witness for the Prosecution any day of the week over 12AM.

I haven't actually seen 12 Angry Men nor Witness for the Prosecution. In the latter case I've read the novel/short story though.
