The Hunger Games.
The last half hour was a load of sh**t, though I can see how it made sense to the plot. Still, a decent watch.
My biggest complaint after watching it was just how every action scene was shot. It was just that sort of "this is PG-13 but it still needs action so we're going to make sure you can't tell what the hell is going on, ever" philosophy of camera work.

It didn't really bother me that much. They still showed the injuries. I think they were just trying to go Cloverfield-manic. The crap with the CGI beast dogs was baloney and that last fight scene made me feel like I was just watching Twilight. It was 2 hours of Children of Men with half an hour of some CW show at the end.

Was the crowd particularly obnoxious, or was it as diverse as that Box Office Mojo report said (only about 60/40 female/male and a majority over 25)?

Just watched this too. I had some issues with it but, overall, I liked it quite a bit. It was more intense than I would have expected it to be. This and
The Dark Knight
kind of prove that you can get away with a lot of serious violence in a PG-13 movie these days as long as you use a lot of fast cuts when necessary.

A Night to Remember
, followed shortly thereafter by
Titanic
. Yeah, a Titanic marathon.
On a side note, the resemblances between
Titanic
and
Twilight
are rather disturbing and preoccupying.

What's disturbing is that you know enough about Twilight to compare things to it.
Anyway, my last film was Network. Amazing. And felt scarily modern.

Haha, well, I think we agree on quite a lot, actually. Like many people of his type he is too caught up in his disdain for certain things that I don't think he has taken the time or effort to seriously encounter. That's why he leaps too far from disliking commercialization or soulless materialism or what have you into some general dislike of empirical facts and material well-being.
Of course, he probably thinks the same of me, but I think I've sat through enough experimental art videos or phenomenological dissertations to have earned the right to hold them in contempt.

The last movie I watched was The Mist. The whole military experiment gone awry pitch has been used way too many times, and there are so many other ways it could have ended on a less grim and disappointing note. More suspense, fewer monster appearances, and a far less over-the-top, obviously fanatical antagonist probably would have helped as well, I reckon. At least it wasn't a zombie movie though and touched a bit on both the brighter and darker sides of human potential.
I also watched War Horse a few days ago, which I enjoyed quite a bit and was glad to have seen.

Last night I saw Titanic in 3D. Great movie. I had never seen it on the big screen before. The movie has a more powerful effect when you watch it in a dark theater without commercials breaking it up. The feeling one has at the end is similar to that at the end of Roman Polanski's
The Pianist
, which deals with the Holocaust--in both cases, while it's nice that the main character survived and went on to have a productive, fulfilling life, the main feeling is one of sadness and horror at what happened, and the realization that most people in both situations did NOT survive.

The Three Stooges
Wildly uneven. There were some genuinely very funny bits but also a lot of awkward/boring stuff. Spot on impressions of the Stooges by the actors though, especially from the unknown playing Moe. Surprisingly good soundtrack too.

What do I disdain exactly that I haven't had the time to encounter? And since have I talked about disliking commercialization or soulless materialism (and I do dislike both those things, but I suspect we are talking in different languages when those terms are mentioned). And you probably have seen more experimental art than I have, certainly experimental literature. I'm actually terribly badly read.

The trailer looked like an utter trainwreck. The reviews haven't been strong but haven't been that negative. So the reviews are sort of accurate?

Yeah, the reviews are pretty accurate. The first trailer definitely made it look worse than it is. This kind of reminds me of what happened with the first G.I. Joe movie. Most people were expecting it to be one of the worst movies ever made but instead it ended up being a moderately entertaining (albeit very forgettable) action movie.

Well, all those things that you've attacked me over on the forum, basically. Economics, for one. And while you may not have talked specifically about soulless materialim, etc they strike me as being in the background for a lot of your posts.
I obviously can't really know how much experimental literature you've read.
Anyway, no offense intended or anything. I have a couple of friends with whom I tend to have these discussions so I'm used to the basic conflict.

I liked it, but don't go in expecting an ordinary horror movie. It has a lot of comedy and is a good satire on the horror genre.
