Re-watched C'est arrivé près de chez vous/Man Bites Dog

The main character had more funny lines than I remembered, though some scenes didn't work as well as I remembered either. On the whole still a pretty strong movie, and a good piece of evidence that Walloon cinema doesn't have to be in the hyper-realist Dardenne-mold to be relevant.

From Dusk Till Dawn

Decent, but the second half was at times less '1970s B-movie' and more 'Xena, the warrior Princess'

The Bubble

For a movie about a Tel Aviv homosexual having a relationship with a Palestinian, i thought it was a lot better than I would have expected. The ending still was pretty cringeworthy though.

Also saw The Fearless Vampire Killers by Polanski on DVD. Pretty weird.

I think it's allright, but it has some really annoyingly slow/clumsy  scenes. I've seen it 3 or 4 times, though, so I may just be overtly annoyed when the awkward snow chase returns for the umpteenth time.

Finally got around to seeing The Tree of Life. Outstanding. Admittedly it is the sort of thing that I'll always like and I can see why others might have a lower opinion and all that, but, meh. Oddly enough the best thing about it wasn't any of the obvious things, but the general feeling of sincerity, something that isn't as common culturally as it once was.

Good to see someone else liked it. It seems to be a love/hate type of movie.

I was 'meh' about it.

The Tree of Life's 'space scenes' were pretty nice to watch (especially when you're tired and half asleep). The family scenes were okay. The dinosaurs were a bit over the top, yes.

Actually, there are very few 'visual' movies which are not enhanced by being half asleep while watching them.

Felicia's Journey

Was okay, Bob Hoskins was quite fascinating.

The Stepford Wives

Astonishingly awful. Someone might want to consider explaining the difference between 'suburbs' and 'gated community' to the writers as well.

Original or remake?

remake

EDIT: Oh, and A Dangerous Method, which was really in need of more Vigo Mortensen, less Keira Knightley, and maybe a little less history lesson.

The Paradine Case, pretty far from Hitchcock at his greatest, but for whatever reason I'm sort of thinking the judge might be the single most fascinating villain/antagonist in any Hitchcock film I can think of right now. Well, there's Bruno from Strangers on a Train, but I'd say he's a bit overrated. Hitchcock's villains aren't anywhere near as tremendous as his heroes, I'd say.

Dark Shadows. Weak Burton, but I was coaxed by others to go.

Has there ever been a strong Burton? (Can't stand him for the most part, much like Wes Anderson.)

Eyes without a Face (1959)

A very good example of a "classic" horror movie.

Been meaning to see that one for a very long time.
