Babette's Feast- First subtitled movie I ever saw. Its about a woman from Paris who moves to a village of Danish Calvinists (or Mennonites or something) who are very old fashioned, they don't like her but then she cooks them a fancy French meal, I forget what happens after that, they all live happily ever after?

Number The Stars- One of my favorite books when I was a kid. I'm sure some of you guys have read it (in school of course )

Where do you get the fish thing from. We eat a lot of pork and beef, but fish is today quite expensive and not that common anymore. In the old days it used to be poor man's food, but those days are long gone.

Where do you get the fish thing from. We eat a lot of pork and beef, but fish is today quite expensive and not that common anymore. In the old days it used to be poor man's food, but those days are long gone.

Its just a stereotype of what Americans think Scandanavians eat. I wasn't stating it as a fact.

My Dad said that Europeans don't eat as much beef (steak) as Americans because they don't have the land for cattle.

That can be easily fixed.  Move to Denmark, live there for 9 years, do not be convicted of a crime, do not go into debt with Danish authorities, and learn the Danish language.  With those conditions met, you can apply for Danish citizenship.

Fx if immigrated from the US when you where 5 years and choses to become Danish citizen when you are 15 (that is the classic time, when you get your first passport) - at the age of 22 you meet the love of your life, a sweet American girl and marry her, you can't bring her to Denmark, eventhough it is your homecountry because you two combined are closer connected to USA. That is in my book a second grade citizenship. I'm quite sure that most American would find our immigration politics disgusting if they take a closer look. After all, you are all immigrants or the decendants of immigrants

Officially we only have one type of citizenship, but as decribed if you are not a native Dane parts of the legislation discriminate against you. Especially the socalled 24-years law, that puts limitations on getting a foreign wife or husband to Denmark if you are younger that 25 years
