Patrick Henry College

The Mission of Patrick Henry College is to prepare Christian men and women who will lead our nation and shape our culture with timeless biblical values and fidelity to the spirit of the American founding. Educating students according to a classical liberal arts curriculum, and training them with apprenticeship methodology, the College provides academically excellent baccalaureate level higher education with a biblical world view.

The Vision of Patrick Henry College is to aid in the transformation of American society by training Christian students to serve God and mankind with a passion for righteousness, justice and mercy, through careers of public service and cultural influence.

The Distinctives of Patrick Henry College include practical apprenticeship methodology; a deliberate outreach to home schooled students; financial independence; a general education core based on the classical liberal arts; a dedication to mentoring and discipling Christian students; and a community life that promotes virtue, leadership, and strong, life-long commitments to God, family and society.

And for any who might be wondering:

By 'conservative', I mean those who are unaligned with the Republican Party and yet consider themselves conservatives.

If you are conservative and a Republican, then vote as a Republican.

Liberal arts? What?

Anyway, no, since I don't see the point to it.

The 'liberal arts' referred to in American academia is a shoddy imitation of the sort of education gentlemen of leisure recieved a century ago (when only gentlemen of leisure attended universities).   It is an unfortunate fact that nowadays many workers register above themselves and end up with such degrees.

I would be interested in taking some of these courses just to see how horribly biased towards the notion of an infallable Bible the courses are.

Sounds fine, but I'd have to see some rankings and costs to determine if I would attend.

I still don't understand what 'liberal arts' means.

Traditionally, Grammar, Rhetoric, Logic, Music, Astronomy, Geometry, and I couldn't recall the the seventh until I looked it seventh until I looked it up, Arithmetic.

In general, it refers to non-technical degrees, such as history, a foreign language, Poli Sci, Sociology, Pre-Law and in some colleges, Economics.

Oh. Logic is a waste of time, since everyone except BRTD already understands that. Music sounds boring. Astronomy is crap. So is Geometry. What do you mean, Arithmetic?

Anyway, nothing particularly interesting.

Once Again, PHC Named Among Top Ten Conservative Colleges

PURCELLVILLE, VA — For the second year in a row, Patrick Henry College has been named one of the top ten conservative schools in the country by the Young America’s Foundation.

According to the Foundation, the ten colleges exemplify in their academic philosophy and curriculum “an alternative to the liberal dominance on the typical American college campus by encouraging students in the study of conservative ideas and the conservative movement.”

To make its selections, the Foundation looks to the quality—and breadth—of conservative thought infused in a college’s coursework. Its criterion includes instruction in the principles of smaller government, strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values. Heavy emphasis is also given to the study of Western Civilization as a core curriculum and the purposeful avoidance of “more obscure topics that limit the student’s understanding of America’s founding principles.”

In naming Patrick Henry College, the Foundation cited PHC’s excellent academic offerings as well as the effectiveness of the College's apprenticeship and internship programs. The growing success and recognition of PHC’s championship moot court and debate teams received special note, as did the school’s innovative Strategic Intelligence program.

Yes. I went to a Jesuit school from ages 12-18 based on exactly the same premise but from a Catholic viewpiont. The school placed a strong emphasis on the classical arts and theology. So it would be wrong of me to attack PHC based on that article.

I wouldn't be suprised. I would like to see it ranked with all liberal arts colleges to see how it stands up to them.

I would never go to a college like that though if I had a kid I would have nothing against sending them to a school like that if they wanted to go there.
