Stop talking about the "impending civil war" that will never happen. -_-

There has been a low level civil war going on for some time now, obscured by the dust of the insurgency.

The bombing of the shrine of Imam Hassan Askari has given it much greater traction as of late.

I think the Shiites will win obviously because of thier greater numbers and especially if they can all unite under an Iranian aegis.

It isn't going to be profitable for the US to put ourselves between the Shia and Sunnis, we're only further destroying our image with the Shia while appearing as the protectors of the very insurgency that we claim to be fighting.

The only one that will come out of any civil war with some semblance of civilization would be the Kurds and that is only if Turkey does not get involved. The Kurds right now live in the most ethnically homogenious area of Iraq, have the most infrastructure and foreign investment in their region than in any place else in Iraq, and have basically been running a functioning government for 10 or so years. Would they win a Civil War? No because they probably wouldn't be involved. Would their rump state be the most prosperous and peaceful if Iraq breaks apart? Probably and if it comes to civil war that will be the closest to victory that anyone could get.

I'm rooting for the Sunnis.  It would be so cool if Saddam would escape!

I dunno. If it does happen, I'd root for the Kurds.

People rarely "win" in civil wars.

The Kurds will.  As it is, if there were to be an internal war, it would be between the Shi'ites and Sunni's.  Most of the experienced Iraqi troops are Kurds, and in case of a total collapse of the government, they would return to the North to defend their turf.
