I will probably be one of the few "yes" votes for old Donald, so I'll take the first punches.  Don has done a good job of trying to modernize our military, not in just weapons, but also in business practices.  There has been a much greater push to develop weapons using off-the-shelf items rather than having to reinvent the wheel each time a system is requested.  Additionally, movement to reduce layers between top brass and contractors have also been implemented to speed up time between concept, to bid, to awarding of contracts, reducing costs on both ends.  This is on top of the shift from the conventional cold-war framework to a more rapid-response, localized combat forces.  While all the changes at once has created pressure and resistance in some parts of the military and contractors, the changes were needed, and the end result will be a much more efficient system.

His piss poor administration of the Iraq War eliminates anything positive he's done. He should remain in office so as to not give the Democrats a victory however.

"Not giving the Democrats a victory" is a more important priority than being successful in Iraq?

"We do know of certain knowledge that he [Osama Bin Laden] is either in Afghanistan, or in some other country, or dead."

"Death has a tendency to encourage a depressing view of war."

My opinion of him is negative. The preperation for and management of the war leaves much to be desired.

He is an f tard in an administration full of f tards so he fits right in.  I would love for him to resign, but my only fear is Bush would find someone even more incompetent to take his place, which is hard to accomplish, but afterall Bush is good at finding bozos who are even more incompetent than the incompetent bozos that came before them Brown or Chertoff anyone??

The assertion "Donald Rumsfeld sucks at his job" seems to be quite a unifying thing on this board.

As for me, I think that Donald Rumsfeld should have his head slammed in a car door until he decides to actually be good at his job.  I could write a strategy by opening Notepad and then taking out a hammer and smashing my keyboard, and it would still be a better strategy than whatever Rumsfeld would come up with.

Mr. Franks is ineligible for the post at this time.  By law [10 U.S.C. 113(a)], the Secretary of Defense cannot have been an active duty officer in the Armed Forces during the ten years previous to taking office.  So you'll have to come up with someone else to replace McNamara II.
