Because it's useless.

If Columbus Day is useless, why not abolish all federal holidays while we're at it?

I see you've missed the point.

I am in favour of making our National "holidays" Atlasia-centric. Given that we have created three Atlasian holidays, I think its correct that we start abolishing the American holidays, especially the ones that don't actually make sense.

So I can expect you to propose a bill to abolish Martin Luther King day, no?

I have already introduced a bill to do so a week or two ago.

But Atlasia is on North America in the place of the United States.  Presumably, someone would have had to discover North America as it happened in the real world, unless our timeline is somehow radically different from reality in a way that I'm unaware.  I don't see why we can't keep that person as Christopher Columbus.  Europe exists in exactly the same form here as it does in the real world.

Another thing is why celebrate someone who wasn't even here first? Why not the Vikings or the Phonecians(sp?) or more likely the Chinese were here first. Why not celebrate them for making it here first?

This bill has enough votes to pass. Senators now have 24 hours to change their votes.
