I hereby open up the final vote on this bill. Please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain.
Quote
Section One
1. Current subsidies for ethanol production, sales, development and research shall be repealed.
2. Tax credits for ethanol production, sales, development and research, including exemptions from the federal fuel tax, and tax credits and deductions from the corporate or personal income taxes shall be repealed.
Section Two
1. The Department of Energy shall be abolished.
2. All the domestic energy programs under control of the department of energy shall be abolished.
3. The National Nuclear Security Administration shall be transferred to the Department of Defense.
Section Three
1. The Federal Government shall sell all the oil in the Strategic Oil Reserve, after which that program shall be terminated.
2. In selling oil in the Strategic Oil Reserve, the Secretary of the Treasury shall sell no more than 50 million barrels in any 28 day period.
Section Four
1. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Energy Information Administration, and the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management shall become independent agencies within the executive branch.
Section Five
1. All Money raised and/or saved under this Act's provisions shall be appropriated for the amortization of the National Public Debt.

While, there undoubtedly aspects of this Bill, which I'm minded to agree with, I'm not entirely convinced that it's in the long-term national interest. Given that it might not be more than just a quick fix and given the slash-and-burn nature of it. (I refer of course to the abolishment of the Department of Energy)
As you know I pride myself in Atlasian greatness, in that we are world leaders in scientific research and development. That is something we should endeavour to maintain. Furthermore, I have concerns about the detrimental on jobs in energy-related industries should this Bill be inacted. If we want to slash the deficit, then we really should be making some concerted effort to generate economic growth throughout. I see certain industries contracting as a result of this Bill. Of course, I don't expect that all would concur with me on this
