I'm curious as to where everyone thinks the U.S. would be right now if we had never gone to war with Iraq, but instead sent troops into Iran?

Would the UN have supported us?  Would we have the same coalition going in?  Would there be a greater or lesser loss of American lives?  Would we actually be heading in the right direction, in terms of the ongoing War on Terror?

And what would that mean for Iraq with Sadam still in power?  Would Iraq actually have turned into a threat to us if we had never gone to war with them?  Would they really have acquired WMDs?

Yes, no, greater, yes.

Bush probably didn't want to touch Iran as long as Khatami was in power and Ebadi was making the headlines.

Well, everyone reason given for invading Iraq probably applied more so to Iran, but it still would have been really really stupid to do so.

I Agree, Iran WOULD have used they're nukes, they would have launched them in any direction, not just Israel.

The only thing i think would be different is that the US would have had even more trouble convincing countries to create a coalition and go into Iran, especially in 2003, with there being a less conservative government in Iran at the time.
