The precincts reporting in now are mostly black and went against Nagin in 2002. This time around, Nagin is doing much better in those precincts and the threat of Tom Watson and Mitch Landrieu to siphon off black votes is apparently not materializing right now. Nagin is back in the lead with Landrieu coming in second with eight precincts reporting.

WWL-TV is calling the mayor’s race. Mayor Ray Nagin and Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu are going to be in the runoff. It’s an open question whether or not Couhig’s and Forman’s numbers combined would have made a difference.

I watched some of the debate. I wasnt impressed by either of them. Landrieu wasnt very motivating and Nagin was just plain stupid. If Nagin wins I will give up hope on New Orleans. Nagin made a bunch of mistakes. He should have called a mandatory eveacuation much earlier.  He should have got buses to pick up people without cars in the poor naeghboorhoods. He also should have cooperated with Gov. Blanco instead of holding a grudge against her for winning the election. He was hiding in the Hyatt while people down on the streets were dieing.

I admit Governor Blanco made a lot of mistakes too. Like not requesting the right emergency measures from the federal government. But the things that she did right like the contra-flow traffic she put in palce for the highways nagin took credit for. She also tirelessly worked to get buses to New Orleans after the storm passed. Nagin is the scum of the earth and should be kicked out of office. Landrieu is decent man. So I support him.

Ive been to New Orleans twice. And while I despise their government and the corruption that goes on their, I think New Orleans should rebuild. New Orleans is a unique, diverse community with GREAT FOOD and a lot of history. We need a lot stronger levees though and a comprhensive evac. plan.
