Did you strongly approve, approve, disapprove, or strongly disapprove of the president's job performance at the following times? Or: Would you have strongly approved, approved, disapproved, or strongly disapproved of the president's job performance at the following times?

Always approved of him as President; though I disapprove somewhat of his extra-marital flings

1993 - strongly approve
slow decline through following years, disapprove by time of 96 elections and pretty much staying around the neutral/disapprove line until the end of his tenure.

I don't really remember the first few years with him as president.  I think I was in 3rd or 4th grade when he was first elected.  So I really can't comment for sure, but I'd guess to begin with I would've been pretty neutral towards his presidency.  If I have to pick one, I'd say "approve," but only slightly.

Looking back now, however (and putting aside the fact that he broke the law by lying under oath--and got away with it like a crook--anyone, especially a world leader, should not be immune to the law, but Bill Clinton for some reason was), I'd say he was in no way a terrible president, but I don't think he really took the country anywhere in terms of progress.  I'd say "disapprove," and again only slightly, towards the latter part of his term in office.

You're testing me to remember what important things happened on some of these days.  Smiley

January 20, 1993:  Approve
August 12, 1993: Neutral
December 1, 1993: Disapprove (after the Brady Bill was signed, interesting date pick)
November 8, 1994: Disapprove
January 31, 1996: Approve
November 5, 1996: Approve
January 20, 1997: Approve
August 20, 1998: Disapprove (the Sudan attack, another interesting date pick)
January 7, 1999: Neutral
November 7, 2000: Neutral
January 1, 2001: Neutral

Actually, you're missing a lot of the time in 1994 and 1997, when I was basically neutral as well.

I would have been angry at him in late 1993 after he caved into the Military and that jackass Sam Nunn on Don't Ask Don't Tell. At least Bush doesn't retreat from confrontation.

I agree.  Don't Ask Don't Tell is a stupid policy in that it supports discrimination.

He did a few good things, but the school uniform extremism ruined his whole presidency.

Very strong disapproval 1993 into 1995, but as he became less radical I took a much more neutral opinion of him into the middle late and late 1990's.

IMO, supporting the military on Don't Ask Don't Tell was one of the few *good* decisions he made in that '93 - '95 stretch. Bad enough that he stripped back the military because we "had no peer enemy," something we found out to be false once again.
