I unfortunately don't really have anyone who I passionately support, but I personally like Ignatieff quite a bit in spite of the fact that he supported the invasion of Iraq.  He has quite an impressive resume, to put it mildly.  However, I realize that his support of the Iraq War alone could be problematic, along with some other things (such as the stuff he wrote for the New York Times), so my support is not exactly unconditional in the least.  I still like him more than the other candidates, though.

Plus, if I may be so shallow to state so, he's quite good-looking, which is never a bad thing for a politician.

It's always scary when an "intellectual" believes in such trife. Would he himself send his son or daughter to Iraq?

No candidate really stands out for me either. I guess the least of 11 (!) evils is Carolyn Bennett.

Any particular reason? Because he was a former Progressive Conservative? Wink

He hasn't paid his dues yet. Neither has Clifford Bayes or Ashley MacIsaac. In all likelhood none of these three will run.

Actually I did, but I don't care anyways, so don't read too much into it.

Well, I hate Bob Rae. He ruined the NDP's chances of ever winning again in this province with his idiotic policies when he was Premier from 1990 to 1995.

They hadn't expected to win IIRC... did they have a majority, btw? And what *exactly* happened afterwards? I don't know nearly enough about it.

Correct; everyone expected another Liberal landslide.

Yes; a big one as well. Problem is, well over half of the new Dipper MPP's had actually basically been paper candidates...

The economy of Ontario was in the sh*tter basically. Not Rae's fault. What made Rae beyond the pale for so many blue collar voters was something called the "social contract"... an extreme austerity measure which included wage freezes and complusory days off (nicknamed "Rae Days") for public sector workers. I think there was also something about allowing the provincial government to force an end to industrial disputes (although that could just be a bit of slander I've picked up. Not sure).

He's always reminded me of Philip Snowden, btw.

Precisely.

I was watching "Politics" with Don Newman yesterday, and it does look like Ignatieff is the frontrunner. Pundits put him at around 30%. Certainly not enough to win on the first ballot.
