I don't think they are all Muslims, if I recall its half Muslim, half Christian.

It was better off as French West Africa.

Timbuktu is located in Mali, although in reality its probably a boring provincial town.

It's one of the more liberal Muslim countries IIRC; isn't Islamism on the rise, though?

I haven't heard about that. Mali is far less Islamist than its neighbor to the west Mauritania.

This country also has a nomadic Touareg/Berber minority in the North, like Niger and Chad.

I haven't heard about that. Mali is far less Islamist than its neighbor to the west Mauritania.

This country also has a nomadic Touareg/Berber minority in the North, like Niger and Chad.
It's virtually 100% Islamic. I think it's still a very traditional place.

The Blues come from Mali, of course.
