They are really pro-US, probably because they are surrounded on 3 sides by China and the fourth by Russia.  I believe they even sent some troops to Iraq.

A large part of their population still consists of nomadic herdsmen, and they're quite poor. Despite this, they're a democracy (at least in comparison to their neighbors), having tossed their communists out in 1990 or so.

Ancient home of Jenghiz Khan. One time ruled everything from the Vistula to the Pacific.

They're also home of one of the most disgusting alcoholic beverages ever invented: fermented mare's milk.
