I know, it's the Drudge Report, hence the caveat lector:

But it's amusing, if true.

To add another side to the story:

TPM put up a story a few days ago saying that Republicans connected to former Gov. Mike Foster were trying to help Nagin get re-elected, so if both stories are true, it shows yet again that Dean's success in winning elections is still pretty crappy.  Sort of went under the radar, but the logic makes sense also.

I'll post the links to both articles and open discussion if anyone cares to make any:

Why's that a suprise? Landrieu was the more "establishment" candidate, and the more loyal party member.

Because they failed with a 9-1 money advantage.  Pathetic.

obviously, dean is still trying to get that crowd to support him.

anyway, i wish moon's son mitch good luck on his insurance career.  sister mary will be down to join him in a couple of years.

Update:

http://drudgereport.com/flash5noo.htm

DNC: DRUDGE IS DEAD WRONG, WE DID NOT PICK LANDRIEU OVER NAGIN

The Democratic National Committee strongly denies it placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin.

Well-placed DRUDGE REPORT sources claimed DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA).

The DNC says the report is "unequivocally and absolutely false."

DNC Communications director Karen Finney explained: "The DNC does not as a policy get involved in Democratic primaries... The only thing that the DNC did was a campaign helping ensure that displaced voters had an opportunity to vote."

The DRUDGE REPORT takes chairman Dean and his spokesman at their word.

It wouldn't surprise me if the story was true.  In fact, I'd hope it is true, since it would mean Dean is actually trying to doing right.  Nagin deserves a lot of the blame for the failures with the Katrina situation.

I would not be surprised if this story were true, despite the quasi-retraction.

I'm glad Dean supported Mitch Landrieu but if they did have a 9-1 money advantage then this is another failure for Howard.

I've never heard anything about Nagin being socially conservative, but he must be. In an article about this election it said that any (white) republicans still in New Orleans would have voted for Nagin, since Mitch was "more liberal" and part of the Democratic establishment in LA.

Does anyone think Nagin will switch parties?

Can't win in New Orleans as a Republican, period.  That's one of the reasons why Nagin switched from Republican to Democrat to begin with.  I wouldn't expect him to switch back.

what does his official duties consist of?  check the obituaries everyday to make sure the governor hasnt passed?

does the gov/lt gov run on a ticket in la?  if so, mitch will be relieved of his 'duties' soon.  the people of louisiana have realized what a mistake they made by electing blanco.

No, they run seperately, Landrieu won on the first round last election, Blanco had to go to the runoff.

Landrieu said at one of the debates the Lt. Gov. handles education issues.

Bush called Nagin to congratulate him. Maybe Nagin is really a Republican, but he just pretends to be a Democrat to get elected. Ron Forman, who finished third, also switched from R to D before the election. Couhig, who finished forth, was the top Republican finisher.

I don't really care what party he is.  He deserves much lower marks than both Bush and Blanco!
