I started thinking about this last night, when an earthquake hit. Tongue

As for me, yeah. Several times a year I go through one.

An earthquake as in, one that caused damage, or any earthquake that could be felt?

No to the former, yes to the latter.

Any earthquake that you felt.

Ah, okay.  In that case, about five or six years ago, there was a weird extremely brief one where everything started shaking for only about two or three seconds.  Enough to freak me out at the realization of what was going on, but not enough to actually damage anything.  I don't think anything in our house even fell over.

Yes, but it was very mild. I saw on the news that a gas station had been right over the epicenter; the attendant didn't even realize there had been an earthquake. It knocked a few small items off my shelf, though.

Yeah, the 2001 one.  It was kind of funny, actually.  I was in the fifth grade, and we were reading a story.  Right when we finished the line "and the ground shook like an earthquake" (or something like that), the ground actually started shaking.  The entire class was pretty freaked out.

Is grown supposed to be ground?  That's pretty cool actually.  You must have had a sorceress for a teacher.

Sure, been through plenty.  I'm a Californian.

Most of the archatecture is built (or retrofitted) to endure even fairly major quakes.   That's why even major quakes here (such as the Northridge quake a decade or so ago) have a relatively low death toll compared to less developed countries.  (And usually about half the death toll is questionable -  people who just happened to be having a heart attack at the time and the such).

You'd think that at least.

Two small ones, one in San Diego (I was visiting) and one in Western Pennsylvania.  The latter knocked the cover of an air conditioner, but I didn't realize it was caused by an earthquake until I saw it on the news.

Yeah, it was.

It's even better than the teacher reading it, though.  It was the smallest, most timid kid in the class, and he was struggling through it - until he said that part, which he said with some convention.  It was creepily surreal.
