Just imagine William J. Bryan with his character, his views and his convinctions running for President in 2008. Would you vote for him?

On which issues he would campaign?
Would he be a Democrat or a Republican?
Would he win? Would the map look like 1896 or way different?

Economically. probably still Democrat. Socially, likely Republican.

Oh yeah, and I'd never vote for an anti-evolutionist.

The chief reason why Bryan was "anti-evolutionist" was that he equated evolutionary darwinism with social darwinism.

No way. He'd never win the Democratic nomination. If he did I'd be a Giuliani Republican.

I would never in a million years vote for him.

Could he run nowadays? I dunno-he'd piss off the Democrats with social veiws.  I think if there was a 'modern' version of him, he could do okay.

Depends on if his social views would have become at all reasonable.

I'd vote for him. He was a great man overall, would have been an excellent President.

Obviously I disagree with him on evolution, but you have to remember that his position was very mainstream in its day.

Like preaching their primitive conclusions would have stopped them...
