Yes, Hurricane Fran in 1996. My house wasn't damaged, but I was without power for 5 days.

Not the full part of it, but the area I live in gets hit by the heavy rains they produce sometimes.

Ohhhhh, Rita.  What a tease you are.

So yeah, the edge.  It was the largest mass evacuation in US History, however...and I stuck around.

OH! but Danny in 1997. We drove home from Florida in that one.

Gloria- 1985
Floyd- 1999 (TS force winds while it was a hurricane with heavy rain)
Isabel- 2003 (skirted with TS winds with local trees toppled. no power loss.)

I had heavy rains during Floyd, but Eastern N.C. was much more damaged than Central N.C.

Had some tornados, but they're relatively weak.

I'm lucky enough to be in a hillier part of the state, so I haven't even experienced one of those since moving to Michigan when I was 8.

We do get a lot of bad blizzards, of course. The worst of those we've ever had was 36 inches of snowfall in one day. Lake Superior generates some nasty lake effect.

I went through Cindy last year. Not sure if that was a Cat 1 or a TS. I evacuated to BR for Katrina, so we still felt part of it and then part of Rita when it came. I know people who stayed through Katrina and some who didn't make it.

The National Hurricane Center said that the Atlantic Coast is more likely than the Gulf Coast to get hit by a major storm this year. Good luck to you guys over there.

I was in Agnes (1974) and Floyd (1999), but both were TS status.  We had no real wind, but flooding in Western PA; the town I was living in was actually isolated by the flood waters, but no body had any real damage.  I ran into a front that was once David in 1992.

I've actually been in worse storms (the 1977 Johnstown Flood), in terms of rain (11 inches is less than eight hours).

I was in school at Florida State when Hurricane Elana came through and knocked out 80% of the power out in Tallahasee. We had great hurricane parties, but the coliseum was out of power and they cancelled the REM concert I had 4th row tickets for. Bummer!

Heavy rains during Isabel 2003: I remember my friends and I got in an innertube and floated down the stream (that turned into a river) that went through our college campus.

I've been threw a lot of garbage hurricanes and storms (Cat. 1 or TS) that no one remembers (not even me).

The biggest ones I went through were the Tropical Storm Allison floods (did work on flood-damaged properties afterwards myself) and Hurricane Alicia (Cat. 3) back in 1983.

Nope.  The only things we have to worry about in these parts are volcano eruptions, earthquakes, and Pat Robertson-spawned tsunamis.

Andrew, 1992.  Only a couple miles north of the Eye.
outer fringes of Tropical Storm Jerry, 1995.
Isabel, 2003, although it was only a TS when it hit.

Same here!!

Although I have been through some really strong winds that came into Anchorage a couple times over the years. Don't think that would count... Tongue

When I was in Houston I sat through a big one. I don't remember which one it is. (When you have 30 in one week it tends to get confusing).

not really...I've had the fringes of several hurricanes, including Katrina, knock out power, but I live far enough inland that they're not all that powerful when they get to me

Yes.  I went through one in 1999, two in 2004 and one in 2005.  Lord knows how many we get this year.

Georgez
Charley
Frances
Jeanne

plus one or two more that the names have slipped away from me.  The past few years down here have been banner ones.  Jeanne was the one that killed me.   We lost power at our store, and after two days do you know what a deli case smells like?  We've learned, we hire frozen and refrigerated trucks to empty all of our cases into.  After we lost almost the  whole store in Frances we decided it was a good investment.

I've been through all 3 of those storms. Hurricane Gloria is one of my earliest memories. That was the worst storm to hit the Northeast since the 1950's.

Floyd caused a lot of flooding and my brother had to cancel his vacation to Disney World.

I was also on the outer edge of Hurricane Bob in 1991. The eye of the storm hit Cape Cod, so it just rained a lot.
