Why is this forum so much more anti-alcohol than the population at large? I don't understand it, I get people here all the time reply to my drinking polls about how they don't drink or tell me about how binge drinking and all that is lame, but in Mankato about 80% of everyone completely agrees with me (example: Our two Facebook groups with the largest membership are "I Drink, I Party and Dammit I'm Awesome!" and "Mankato State: Outdrinking Your School Since 1866"). So why is this forum so much more anti-alcohol than the general population?

I'm not anti-alcohol... in fact, I'm probably a boarder line alcoholic.  I have never "needed" at drink, but I drink quite a bit, and more often than not, alone.

a) a large proportion of this forum is teenage, nerdy, and needs more friends.
b) Mankato is not representative of the population at large either.

i dont think the alcohol perception by this forum is any different from what would be expected of the age groups represented.

At college, it's naturally going to be higher than the mean.

YOU IDIOT!!!  Wink

I agree with the idea that, with many teenagers on this forum, they have yet to get into drinking and therefore do not see the need for it.  I, and a few like me, who have lived life already realize that there is nothing gained from alcohol, so why waste the money and braincells on it?  Water is cheaper and healthier for you.  Smiley

Wait, you're using the college-age population of Mankato as a representative sample of the entire population of America?  I think this forum is rather likely to be more representative than that, given that we at least have different age groups and ideologies.

It's not exactly that I've yet to get into drinking.  I've had some alcohol on occasion.  I just never saw what the big deal was.  One or two is good to get you sociable, but I prefer to actually remember what happened at a party...

Those anti-alchohol panty twists get on my nerves as well. I encourage people to drink, endulge in the gifts of life - loosen up. No one cares that your clean, and no one cares about your feelings on alchohol. I'm proud to be a drunken bastard under the age of 21 and anyone that wants to whine at me about it can go to hell and get comfortable.

Where do you buy these beers moose?  I know the Six Pack Store near the Mayfair K-Mart in Northeast Philly has a lot of these weird brands.  I've tried Grolsch and Pilsner Urquell and like them both.

Yeah and those from the area who watch cable commericals.  The guy with the porno hair and glasses in them sadly knows my name and face because I go in there so much.

Went to Weyerbacher (as you know, its in easton) and went on the tour, and proceeded to buy a 35 dollar case...heh. The Raspberry Imperial Stout is delicious (8% by volume).

The other beers I found at a local (easton distributor)...now that I'm  home...I have to figure out where to go. I used to buy all of my beers while at school and bring the (sometimes sizable) surplus home.

Pilsner Urquell is one of my favs.

But I like New Castle and Smithwicks above all.

Forgot about Smithwicks.  That's another favorite!  I meant to ask NE Philly/Lower Bucks/Eastern Montco area, but the place I go only has six packs.  They sell some 12s, but only domestic.

If you like the original you might like to try Troeggs Sunshine Pils. It is really a good pilsner and brewed right here in PA! (Harrisburg, no less.)

Eh, I could care less what this forum thinks of alcohol consumption. When I drink --- and I drink a lot, I don't broadcast it,  I don't get  on the forum if I'm inebriated.

A non-issue.

Which I have no problem with.  It's the times when people start piping up with "HAY GYZ I LIKE ALCOHOL I AM SO COOL RIGHT" that I start to get annoyed.  Same goes for sex.  It's not the action, it's when people talk about what they did on and on and on.

Oh yeah,  I agree fully.  Posts like that just drag the quality of the forum down.

Well, personally, I'm not anti-alcohol, I just frankly don't see the point of getting plastered. I really don't see why someone would want to get into such a state. Beer especially I don't understand - I like some beers ok(most taste like piss-water), but I much prefer good liquor. But if that's your thing, whatever, not my business.

However, if you act like anyone who doesn't want to get drunk is an idiot, a loser, or a bore then expect a negative response from people who don't like to get drunk. Also, if you flaunt what you do in your private life to random people over the internet expect them to give their opinion, and don't expect it to always agree with yours.

Not the entire population of America, just people in our age group. In that case, the college age population of Mankato, or any other college town, works as a good sample.

I enjoy the occasional drink. I used to drink a lot more when I was in college, though not as much as most college students in my experience. It was fun for a while, but it gets old really fast.
