I am intensely interested in social history, because I feel it of equal importance to the major forces of the world. After all, the people provided the back-drop and very legs upon which every greater person stood throughout the annals of time.

What exactly is the definiton of Social History?
If it is what I think it is then the other stuff isn't really understandable without it anyway...It just has to be broken up into nice statistics to chase the girls away...

Social history is the study of culture trends, living conditions, etc. I agree that it's important, I just prefer political history or military history. Social history often consists of reading a book that contains nothing but graphs and tables and various mind-numbing statistics, and then siting in class with the professor saying, "and wasn't that an interesting book? what do you all think about the fact that 13% of women in York in 1513 wore brown dresses and that 16% percent of those ate fresh water fish!"

Culture trends - boring, except where it's telling on other things. Or where class differences are involved.
Living Conditions - another hobby of mine, actually
I prefer it when it's all nicley tied in: Some stats, some pics or original sources. Not just telling you how people behaved but also why, which has a lot to do with the history of ideas but also with living conditions
Military history - leave me alone with that. For me it's enough to know who won what and how quickly that war was forgotten

I am male, but I guess that was pretty clear from my screen name.
Men do seem to be more interested in the mechanics of politics and history than women are.

Yeah...because men are SMARTER!!!
Note: I can be sexist because there are no women at the thread. However, if any women suddenly pop up at the thread...I apologize for that remark.

Why apologize for telling the truth? This place is so heavily male that it reminds me of the motto for a show on the Spike network -- it goes something like "here, you can leave the toilet seat up."

Men are not really smarter, just different. Women tend not to use their intelligence as much, so they often know less things, but it got nothing to do with intelligence.

Gustaf, I was being sarcastic. I don't believe men are more intelligent than women, though men and women do think very differently and predictably, I identify much more with the male way of thinking than the female way.

Oh, sorry, I didn't spot that...
And for the last part I am not surprised, and you should see that as positive maybe..
