At first with this quiz I answered a lot of maybe rather than "yes" or "no", because I hesitate on issues I see as more nuanced.

I'm not quite clear on how I could be a social liberal and a socialist and tend toward Republican. I don't object to being termed a moderate or liberal Republican, but only a free-market fundamentalist would consider me a socialist.

Then I tried answered only yes or no, even if I leaned only sightly in one way or another.
I'm impressed by how much my graph and description changed, but the overall score still pretty similar.  I'm guessing the descriptions don't have a "moderate" category, and so one swings completely from capitalist to socialist with the slightest change.
I'd be interested in seeing a well-illustrated explanation of what the graph represents.

it's true I'm not a pure libertarian. Cosmolibertarian is accurate for me on racial/immigration issues and probably economics much more so than for traditional morality, where I'm more paleo.

center-right social libertarian

Economic:        2.9      Right
Social:            -3.75   Libertarian
Foreign Policy: -5.67   Non-Interventionist
Culture:          -2.1     Cultural Liberal

good quiz - I think I did this one some time ago.  I might be just a tad less non-interventionist or culturally liberal than what this suggests, but overall it's about right.
neat maps and other comparisons here - seem pretty representative most places of what you'd expect.

Seems like the concept of what these axis are measuring needs a little work.

Can't divide by zero Wink
It's not dividing *by* zero. It's multiplying zero by a fraction. Tongue

fun test - a lot of it not directly related to politics but to family, religion, etc. on the theory that issues of authority in other areas are analogous to that in the political ream.  a problematic idea, but interesting nonetheless.

accurate in some ways, but the overall picture it draws isn't so much

http://www.pbs.org/timetochoose/quizzes/pew.html
Populist Republican

Defining Values:  (somewhat accurate parts bolded)
Religious, nationalistic and pro-life. Negative attitudes toward gays and elected officials.
Sympathetic toward the poor. Most think corporations have too much power and money. Tend to favor environmental protection. Roughly six-in-ten are dissatisfied with the state of the nation.

Who They Are:
Heavily female (61%) and less educated. Fully 31% are white evangelical Protestants compared to 15% overall.

Top Priorites for the Next President:
Morality (22%)
Social Security (22%)

Top Issues and Concerns in the 2000 Election:
Adding prescription drug benefits to Medicare (91%)
Being unable to afford health care for a sick family member (89%)
Having enough money for retirement (82%)
Being unable to put a child through college (82%)

Analysis:
Populist Republicans stand out for their strong religious faith and conservative views on many moral issues. They are less affluent than other GOP groups, however. Many of their social values are similar to other wings of the Republican Party, yet Populist Republicans tend to favor government efforts to help the needy.

*******************************************************
I really hate the question "are you a strong Republican?" People don't like to say they are not strong. It should be "are you strongly Republican?"

As a spiritual person, you’re very concerned with human rights issues such as poverty and disease. You’re also passionate about issues that concern life and death, such as abortion and the death penalty. You believe both to be wrong; neither is ever justifiable. Environmental and conservation issues are also near and dear to your heart, although you want to balance such green concerns with economic ones. You take the same moderate approach to other hot button issues such as gay marriage, health care, and the regulation of Wall street. Cooler minds will prevail. Having a hot head never helped anyone.

Here’s your PQ:  19.5

Politicians with similar PQs are:

Newt Gingrich (R-Ga., 1979-94) PQ=11.4
Richard Nixon (R-Calif., 1947-52) PQ=12.5
Lindsay Graham (R-S.C., 1995-2009) PQ=14.9
John McCain (R-Az., 1983-2006, 2009) PQ=15.8
Joe Scarborough (R-Fla., 1995-2000) PQ=16.4
Jack Kemp (R.-N.Y., 1971-86) PQ=20.4

Charlie Stenholm (D-Tex, 1979-2004) PQ=28.5

Scarborough and Kemp are a good fit for me.  The test has a whole is limited, being only on one axis, but still interesting.

Free / Growth

You scored 80% growing, 20% insuring, and 52% reducing!

I have a very vague idea of what the growth and insuring are supposed to be, but no clue what reducing is.  I like the idea of organizing a test along a theory of value, but some of the questions are odd.  Cookies vs. votes?  Not everything about one's views can be explained by fairness.

I identify a little more with the description of Free/Balance.

Idealist

You scored -3 Force, 1 Institutions, and 3 Ideals!

Idealist
You believe in using international institutions to advance your ideals, but you are not a huge fan of using military force to do so. In fact, if the world was only populated by people like you, militaries wouldn't need to exist. Unfortunately it isn't, and you will probably be killed at a young age by a sociopath who asks you to step inside his van. If by some chance you should survive, here's my advice to you: Have lots of kids. If you can outbreed everyone else, humanity has a chance.

Seems about right. I'm a nonmilitaristic internationalist, but very conflicted about international institutions.  However, that last sentence of the description is not necessarily the sort of idea that's conducive to peace..

Green - You believe that small economic units should control the goods, and that the government should be permissive of "victimless crimes," respectful of civil liberties and very strict towards big business. You also believe in either a socialist tax structure or more power to local communities. You think that environmental policies should be written into law. Your historical role model is Ralph Nader.
