You are a New Prosperity Independent.

Defining Values:
Pro-business, pro-environment and many are pro-choice. Sympathetic toward immigrants, but not as understanding toward black Americans and the poor. Somewhat critical of government. Tolerant on social issues.
Who They Are:
Well-educated (40% have a college degree), affluent (almost four-in-ten earn at least $75,000), young (70% less than age 50), and male (64%). Less religious (only 15% go to church weekly).

Top Priorites for the Next President:
Education (25%)
Health Care (19%)

Top Issues and Concerns in the 2000 Election:
Adding prescription drug benefits to Medicare (91%)
Using payroll taxes for private retirement accounts (84%)
Eliminating the Inheritance Tax (79%)

Analysis:
Affluent and less religious, this group is basically non-partisan with a slight lean toward the Republican Party. New Prosperity Independents are highly satisfied with the things that are going in the country. A majority approves of Bill Clinton, yet tends to be critical of government. One-third consider themselves Internet enthusiasts. Two-thirds favor having third major political party in addition to the Democrats and Republicans.

Can't say I'm highly satisfied with how things are going on in the country, but oh well.

You are a right social libertarian.
Right: 3.51, Libertarian: 5.16

Foreign Policy:
On the left side are pacifists and anti-war activists. On the right side are those who want a strong military that intervenes around the world. You scored: -3.79

Culture:
Where are you in the culture war? On the liberal side, or the conservative side? This scale may apply more to the US than other countries. You scored: -3.95

I think I'm much closer to the center on economics overall, but a test can't ask every possible question in the world.

Center-North Libertarian
You are moderately libertarian - where 'north' indicates a test position that's neither left nor right but upwards. You believe most of the same things as mainstream libertarians, but not as stridently, not as radically. You think that libertarian policy will come from pragmatic arguments and incrementalism. Some Republicans/Democrats, some Libertarians. (100%)

You are a national liberal totalitarian. 0 percent of the test participators are in the same category and 0 percent are more extremist than you.

Wait, whoops...

You are a liberal Cosmopolitan. 4 percent of the test participators are in the same category and 15 percent are more extremist than you.

That's better!

Pacifist: 100%
Libertarian: 89%
Radical: 80%
Marxist: 71%<---???
Liberal: 46%
Nationalist: 46%<---???
Neoliberal: 44%
Neorealist: 23%
Realist: 12%
Neoconservative: 0%

I wouldn't consider myself aligned entirely with this quiz's definition of pacifist. I don't necessarily believe in dismantling all nuclear stockpiles or the abolition of capitalism.

Political Spectrum:

You are a center-left social libertarian.

Left: 1.01
Libertarian: 6.58
Foreign Policy: -6.45
Culture War: -6.86

Foreign Policy quiz:

Libertarian
Emphasis on defense, small government, vital interests; states by and large don't attack you if you don't attack them. Governments should have little or no relations with each other as open commerce and mutual respect can maintain peace in most (or all) situations, only attack them when they attack us. Badnarik, Rothbard. (100%)
Pacifist
Emphasis on violence, injustice, war; states spread war, disease and famine. We must encourage an end to all violence, dismantling of al nuclear stockpiles, and eliminate the causes of division, conflict and violence, perhaps including capitalism or business. Thoreau, Tolstoy. (91%)
Marxist
Emphasis on socialism, exploitation, racism; capitalist countries are either false democracies or outright fascist states, socialist countries are more just (or at least less dangerous). Capitalism and racism are evil institutions spreading Western hegemony and propping up decadent empires, either historical processes or street protests (perhaps revolutions) will bring about more humane world. Trotsky, Molotov, Marx! (72%)
Liberal
Emphasis on freedom, markets, democracy; free democratic states are good and fair, but autocratic states are immoral. We must push for democratization and liberalization around the world using open trade and international organizations: all people should be free. Wilson, Reagan, Kant, Shultz. (69%)
Radical
Emphasis on social justice, cooperation, democracy; the best states are peaceful and democratic, as well as moderately egalitarian. We must stop attacking countries for oil and focus on larger threats; beating up little countries that never hurt anyone is a grave threat to spreading democracy. Basically Neoliberal with a dash of Marxist. Dean, Gore. (60%)
Neoliberal
Emphasis on cooperation, consensus, free trade; cooperative, democratic states are more advantageous than rogue autocracies. To secure our own borders, we should make sure other countries are democratic, free-trading, and participate in international organizations: a much more pragmatic version of Liberal. Clinton, Fukuyama, Marshall. (57%)
Nationalist
Emphasis on self-determination, ethnicity, bigotry; large states oppress and slaughter ethnic/national minorities. We, as an aspiring country, must use any means necessary to (re)establish our homeland, even as racists and imperialists. Though normally a broader group, this variant is the violent nationalist, sometimes (but not always!) creeping into terrorism. Arafat, Ceku, Adams. (35%)
Neorealist
Emphasis on power, certainty, stability; states wish to be at peace but the world is unstable and uncertain, so they have to prepare for war to avoid destruction. We must be strong where it is warranted, but military reductions are the default, and arms control agreements can secure some stability. Bush-41, Waltz, Rice. (13%)
Neoconservative
Emphasis on civilizations, democracy, strength; states act through civilizational and cultural means for their own advancement. We must spread democratic institutions and markets to other countries, but also include a very strong military establishment, democracy is a tool of diplomacy and war, ultimately democracies will side with us and we must side with them, although some of our allies may be non-democratic. Bush-43, Kristol, Wolfowitz. (10%)
Realist
Emphasis on power, strength, realpolitik; all states are aggressive and warlike and any chance to improve relative strength will be seized. We must judge our interests and do whatever is necessary to advance them, lest our country be destroyed. Nixon, Morgenthau, Kissinger! (0%)

Radicalism   88.5
Socialism   43.75
Tenderness   65.625

These scores indicate that you are a tender-minded progressive; this is the political profile one might associate with an animal rights activist. It appears that you are moderate towards religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear neither committedly capitalist nor socialist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a political centrist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, an idealist with many strong opinions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

I'm considering making a political spectrum quiz based on French National Assembly standards with a couple modifications (probably another axis) to be more articulate. The whole "left and right are a matter of economics" thing is starting to bug me.

Economic Lib.
0 authority, 8 economy

Economic liberal. You don't have any strong opinion about the form and powers of government, or at least you're comfortable with them as they are now. But you do think that unrestrained capitalism is harmful, and there must be some regulation to make it fair. You're not quite a moderate, but you're not outrageously liberal, either.

Most Similar - Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter was born to a Georgia family of modest means. He was very intelligent, conscientious, and reserved. He largely avoided scandal, but sometimes stuck to narrow ethical principles at the expense of the larger picture. He also, after the initial luster of being "not Richard Nixon" wore off, struggled mightily to build rapport and affection among his underlings and the American public alike. On the world stage he was pummeled for the hostage issue in Iran and was accused of naivete in several areas. Carter drank rarely, if ever, while he was President.

You are also similar to Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was born to a very poor family in Kentucky, moving frequently as a youth until he settled in Illinois. He naturally kept to himself, yet when in the company of others he was quite engaging. His supply of jokes and anecdotes was almost endless. He was also well-read and quite intelligent. He applied himself diligently to his work, often well into the evening. He also possessed a dark emotional current that would probably be diagnosed as clinical depression in our time. He never enriched himself personally from his political position, but could err on the side of making excuses for his subordinates.

You are also similar to Barack Obama.

Barack Obama was born to a middle-class mother in Hawaii, but grew up without knowing his father. He moved a couple of times as a child. He is known as having introspective traits and has written multiple books on his own life and the American political system. Socially he is adept but not extremely outgoing. He is also very deliberate and slow to express anger or discomfort, and known for trying to seek consensus in his interactions. In fact, one criticism has been that he is overly trusting of others' intentions. Compared to his previous Democratic predecessor, Obama seems to have avoided personal or ethical lapses in his judgment.

You are least similar to Franklin Pierce.

Franklin Pierce was born to a family of comfortable means in New Hampshire. He was confident and outspoken, yet sometimes a bit too eager for the approval of others. He was a heavy drinker for most of his life, eventually dying of cirrhosis. His family life was also marred by tragedy. As President he tried to administer efficiently, dividing appointments amongst numerous competing factions of Democrats. Besides his drinking, there were few hints of ethical impropriety. Pierce was well-traveled, but rather myopic and narrow in his worldview. In spite of his New England roots, he consistently blamed northern abolitionists for the start of the Civil War.
