I, hereby, introduce the following amendment:

3. This Agreement requires a commitment on the part of Thailand to make progress towards becoming a fully functioning liberal democracy, with respect for political freedoms and civil rights. This will be monitored by the Secretary of State in accordance with the terms of the Foreign Policy Review Act. Should he determine that Thailand is regressing on its commitment, and then he shall either (depending on the severity of the regress):

a. Request that the Senate introduce an appropriate tariff either on:

i. Selected Thai goods
ii. All Thai goods

b. Request that the Senate revoke the Agreement with Thailand in its entirety

Although, Atlasia does not at this point in time have any military or economic restrictions with the Kingdom of Thailand, it's not a nation with which Atlasia should be comfortable entering a free trade agreement with without such an amendment. Frankly, when all the major political parties, other than the ruling Thai Rak Thai Party, boycotted the most recent legislative elections in April 2006, which I understand have been declared invalid with fresh elections scheduled for October 2006, it strikes me that all is not well with Thai democracy. Indeed, as recent as 1992, Thailand was ruled by a military junta with a democratic veneer

Furthermore, trafficking in women and children and forced prostitution and labor are serious problems in Thailand. This is clearly an affront to basic human rights of such women and children, which ought to be addressed

With 5 Ayes and 1 Nay, this bill has enough votes to pass.  Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.
