Guess what?  It rained at Wimbledon today, no matches were completed.  Smiley

Take it from here.

It rained because God hates Wimbledon. Wimbledon Village (the posh suburb in which this wee event is played) is one of the strongest Tory wards in the entire U.K. This is why God hates it so.

Federer's going to win, unless Roddick pulls a miracle out of his pocket.

God didnt allow Wimbeldon to take place today because Wimbeldon is trying to steal some of the spotlight from the football world cup (a most un-godly act). It will continue to rain in wimbeldon till the 9th of July.

Federer has to be strong favourite but he did get a fairly tough draw. Ancic may just be able to beat him.

The women's is wide open, Henin-Hardenne is my pick at the moment.

Agassi won his opening round match.  Smiley

It doesn't look like Roddick (my favorite player, sadly) will get on the court today, it's late.  He may start the match, but he certainly won't finish it.  He's playing a guy who won two matches at Wimbledon last year, and Roddick's lost in the opening round in two of his last three grand slam events, so this won't necessarily be a walkover.

Andy pulled through Smiley

He draws a tough second round match (again); it's some skinny German guy who actually made it to the Wimbledon quarters a few years back and can play on grass.  Obviously, Roddick is a favorite, but he isn't getting any walkover draws.

I thought all Brits loved him?  Do you dislike him because he's Scottish?

No; he's the English one. Always struck me as an over-rated, self-important twat.
Murray is the Scottish one.

Oh, you're right.  I got confused because they mentioned Murray was Scottish during the Henman match.

Do you hate Roddick too due to the self-important reasoning?

No; self-importance isn't the main reason why I delight in seeing Henman get turned into a messy smear on the grass.
I'm indifferent to most tennis players really; I hate that Australian git as well o/c. But everyone does.

Roddick v. Murray (maybe) and Agassi v. Nadal could be fun in the third round.

Roddick has lost the pot. Only two people can beat Federer on grass; Ancic or himself.

The womens im going for Justine Henin. Sharapova will always be a popular winner. While venus williams has so much disrespect for the game she deserves no success at all.

Who do you think will win out of

Roddick v Murray (as a Roddick fan I'm scared of Murray)
Agassi v Nadal (I think Agassi will win in 4 sets)

I hate NBC.  After faithful hours upon hours from ESPN2, NBC pops on at noon and shows a tape of Nadal and Agassi from hours ago when everyone knows the outcome.

French Open is pretty much the only Tennis tournament I can get interested in... although not this year... combination of time of year and being played on a sensible surface I guess.

I only viewed this thread because I seen Al's post on the Comedy Goldmine and was hoping this thread might've been hijacked for a discussion of Wimbledon constituency. Certainly that's not Rock Solid Tory - what areas does it include apart from Wimbledon proper, Al?

Fairly standard-issue middle suburbs really:

Labour do best in South Wimbledon (the Abbey and Trinity wards) which is marginal at the best of times and Tory this year. Area is full of low-order clerical workers IIRC. The only ward in the constituency that didn't go Tory was Merton Park; held by a Residents Association of some kind.

Not a seat that anyone expected to go Labour basically; it was one of those fluke-ish seats picked up in '97 due to anger at Negative Equity (the main cause of the big Tory falls in seats with a lot of low order clerical workers...) and Labour only held it in 2001 due to a good M.P and the very, very strong Labour machine in nearby Mitcham & Morden (which is o/c full of people moved out from Battersea etc. by Wandsworth council in the '80's).

F'ing Roddick... I think he lost the match in the first set, when it looked like he had broken Murray on set point and then Murray made a fantastic save.  The demoralized the good Andy.  He's still hot though.

Expect the British media to put so much pressure on Andy Murray that he'll never win anything, ever.
