...but just as a heads up, my computer will most likely crash at some point in the near future.  It's really messed up right now, complete with programs that are running that we don't want to run/know are running.  On top of that, I can only use the computer for maybe 20 minutes at a time before the computer decides it can't handle so many tasks anymore and freezes.  Then I have to manually shut down and start up the computer.  Lovely.

Also, the task manager and the registry editor are non-existent.  Especially the registry editor.  Actually, the task manager just decided to show up and it's telling me that my computer usage is at 100%.  Usually, it's at around 8%.  This is a very ill computer.

So, there will come a time where I will not be on the computer unless I forced Fezzy to log out and let me log on at his house or something because my computer is completely dead.

Thank you for those who took the time to read this incredibly boring explanation.

So combined we're down from three computers to one.

Pretty sad, isn't it?  Why can't your dad come to our rescue? Sad  Isn't that his job? (Not that he knows about my problem yet...)

You know, I was just thinking that maybe because my computer usage is at 100%, it's making my computer so much louder than usual...  Hmmm...

Benn there. My suggestion, just go through the task manager and end all of the useless processes. If they are in all caps, composed mainly of numbers,or start with "hp" than you should probably end them. If that doesn't work, then I wish you luck.

Lol, no, it's not like he's on the "Geek Squad" or something.

But he knows more than we do and he so kindly fixed my computer before when it was being attacked by tojans and stuff...  And it worked so well for awhile, too.

Thank you!  Lemme see if I can open the task manager...  Nothing starts with 'hp' or is in all caps or numbers.

There is something called MsPMSPSv.exe.  Would that count as all caps?  That's the program with the most caps...

Ugh... I'm so SCREWED!

Thanks so much for the advice, though.  I'll be on the look out for programs like that.

Have both.

Run both all the time.

Have Microsoft AntiSpyware, too.

None of them can delete the programs for more than, like, half an hour.  They just come back without deleting the stuff from the registry I can't access.

I would recommend a re-install but you said you can't find the disk.

Besides the list of programs, you should post the memory usage as well. Generally, when Firefox gets over 200,000 K, I need to kill it and then reopen it.

svchost is a service host. Not sure what it does on XP, but on 2003 Server, lots of stuff depends on that file.

Do you leave the computer on all the time or do you shut it down when you go to bed each night? If it has been running for a while, it helps to reboot it. Also, have you installed any new software recently?

Uh, Vlad, why are you disabling her sound card software and firewall? Tongue

Rin-chan, download this:

http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

And post the log results (or PM them, if you want them to be private).  This will also include "hidden" processes.  I will help you with the log results, if you like.

Isn't svchost.exe some sort of trojan?

It can be if it's located in a different folder than it should be, but multiple instances of svchost.exe are normal on every computer.

I used to have those in my Task Manager and the Geek Squad guy told me they were viruses.

Alcon's right in directing you to hijack this...

theres a more detailed and complex program that lets you do the same thing as task manager...
its procexp.exe

It might help you to find where some nasty dll's are hiding in some of your running programs...you'll have to go into safe mode to delete em.

Its not that hard if you realize which files you need to hit.

Alcon...I know for a fact I have a nasty dll hooked onto my winlogon.exe...

even in safemode its 50-50, at best, that I can shut winlogon off and delete the file (since windows loves to shut its self off after I disable winlogon).

Is there any better way to shut off winlogon long enough to delete the dll? or am I doomed to run safe mode 50 times before I get it.
