What if...Lieberman and Chafee wind up running as independents (either by foregoing their primaries or just losing them) and both win in the general.  Could we see the creation of a new centrist party forming out of this and these 2 guys?
Polls have shown that people are disatified with the current parties and want a new one...Another question is what would this mean for 2008?

I suppose if the Democrats nominated Hillary, then Lieberman/Chafee might have a chance.

Lieberman = Good.
Chafee = Not so good, but not terrible.

Democrats don't like Lieberman and Republicans don't like Chafee. It would be intresting, but sadly enough to say...it would end up being more hype than substance.

I believe Harry was simply postulating that both Liebeman and Chafe rejoin the senate as independants, not run as a presidential ticket.

I don't buy the possibility of a serious third party - the Democrats have moved so far right in the last decade or two that there is really no room for a 'moderate' third party.  The only significant potential constitutency for such a party lies in the Northeast, and this group (former Rockefeller Republicans) is not really very uncomfortable with the modern Democratic party.
