Very bad. In fact so bad, that the only thing that could be worse than it would be a democratic congress.

I'm not impressed, but I'll take it over the alternative.

People forcing regression on America typically get a negative vote.

The problem is a party that has all (or at least most) of the control over the entire agenda in all branches of the government.  No checks and balances.  Just an overwelming urge to push agendas that could never get anywhere in a more balanced government.   A mild version of a country with a single party system.  The only thing saving us is their fear of losing power at the next election.

And there is a lot of truth in that.  Additionally, within the Republican congress, there are subsets of republicans which don't always agree with each other on issues, so, even with a "majority," they don't always get things passed down the party line.

How can the near-supermajority party not suck if Congress sucks overall?  Lord.

Negative.  Spend time fixing problems, not debating about suburban white people bullplop.

I have a generally negative outlook on congress in general, the majority party is rather irrelevant to me. Congress is the ultimate example of government inefficency, and that has held true through all of the majority changes.

moose, there is little doubt a democrat congress would be a disaster.

but, do you really think it would be any worse than the current republican congress?

it could be.

It wouldn't be very ambitious under Bush...but give it a term and a democratic president...and it would be worse than our current situation.

I was answering in the context of the republicans in congress vs the democrats in congress.  Congress as a whole sucks, and has for a numerous presidencies, but between the two parties right now, my opinion is neutral.

Can those who say that the Republican Congress is terrible but then claim that a Democratic Congress would be worse, explain why?

I personally think the first changes that they'd push through, the ones they'd have most success with, would be economic...which as we know is why I am a Republican.

Although the R's haven't done much to earn my respect.

A Democratic Congress (with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi) might not be that much better than the current GOP congress, but at least it'd focus on issues that actually matter and actually affect people.

And besides, it would punish the Republicans for their incompetence and ineptitude, which is all I truly care about.
