Even though they have been fighting a bit lately, they are 2 of my favorite posters.

WalterMitty/Virginian87

WM wouldn't win anything in the South despite formerly living in NC.  I'd give him NY, VT, CT and NJ though.  V87 would do better in the rural west over gun issues.  I wouldn't surprised to see a conservative 3rd party candidate do quite well, IIRC V87 is pro-choice.

Here is a better map:

With Walter Mitty as the Rockefeller Republican and Virginian87 as the populist-leaning southern Democrat, the 2004 presidential election map would be almost completely flipped with Virginian gaining most of the states that Bush won, with the exceptions of Indiana and Utah (whose loyalty to the Republican Party outweighs their conservatism).  Walter Mitty gains all the most urbanized states, including the District of Columbia which is won over by his support for race-based affirmative action.

Of the two maps so far, I think Frodo's is closer.  I could see Minnesota going to Walter, as well as possible Michigan.  Idaho would be a toss-up in my book, since it would be a battle of ideologies.  The same would be true for Virginia and Pennsylvania.

I tried my best-though some states were really hard, like Pennsylvania, Michigan, some western states (more towards Virginian on gun issues, but still heavily Republican).

Mitty would do well in solid Republican areas for partisan reasons, while Virginian would do well in solid Democrat areas (especially among blacks). Mitty's pro-amnesty position would sit well with many Hispanics, while it would lead to a close race in Texas. Virginian could win much of the south if he could build a coalition of religious conservatives and blacks; however I don't see fundamentalists voting for Virginian.

Generally agree...I'd flip the following states:

to Virginian
Kentucky (for the same reasons you have WV dem) to Virginian
Delaware-Wilmington and New Castle County dominate the state, and have a large african american population which we agree Virginian would do well with

To Mitty:
Colorado and Montana (Fairly libertarian states) and some of Mitty's leftist quirks would play well here.

Here’s a blast from the past! https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=28610.0. This race would be not too different from that between Democratic ‘Hawk’ (D-Georgia) and WalterMitty (R-Massachussetts)

My prediction:

Mitty’s prediction:

However, I’d say Virginian87 was, on balance, more populist than me so as to whether this helps Mitty in more socially liberal/libertarian states, I don't know but I still think it could be anything from a significant Virginian win to a small Mitty win

I’d vote Virginian87 of course

mitty is hard to peg ideologically. Some of us his strong positions are things that I support such as gun control, so I would vote for him.

His positions on the issues are kind of random. Hopefully he'll change the on the issues he sucks on like the Iraq war, and become a Democrat.

For all those who say Mitty's a libertarian, I've never considered him one of us, as I'm sure he wouldn't want to fit in with us either.  He's a gun grabber, he supports socialistic policies, 'nuff said.  He could run as a 'lesser liberal' in California bay area, Massachussetts, and other like areas though.

Mitty would sweep the partisan Republican and liberal states.  Virginian87 would win his precious southern states and some moderate Republican states though it'd be close with Mitty.

Mitty:308
Virginian:230

Definite Mitty win.  Virginian87 wouldn't get much appeal outside of the South and is hurt by the fact he isn't running as a Republican.

Walter Mitty, since Virginian87 only seems to care about the South and thinks the Northeast can go screw itself, at least thats the impression I get.

There's some really stupid maps here.

There is no way Mitty would win Wisconsin with his views on unions. Or Minnesota for that matter.

I'll make one later probably.

He could pull off Minnesota is he won the liberal vote.  I agree Wisconsin would be more interesting.  So maybe a change there.

Come on Preston...

Mitty Lose Colorado? Montana? (You guys are way overplaying democratic gains in relatively libertarian states). And a Democratic sweep of the south...highly improbable.
