What would the other-wise law abiding citizen do w/ the handgun?--just poses it illegally or go on a 30-person shooting spree?

Handguns can misfire.

Also, just because you're law abiding, doesn't mean you're particularly careful. A handgun could easily be left somewhere that isn't totally secure, and a child could find it. There have been many cases of small children harming/killing themselves/others with handguns that were carelessly left lying around.

I'm not trying to debate (yet)--I simply want to know the context of the question

Politicians are dangerous because they want to stop you from having a joint or a handgun

A handgun, obviously. But there's worth things that could be in such a hand, such as the steering wheel of a car.

A joint--that distorts your vision, and could lead to:
a) Car accidents
b) Misuse of a legally owned hand-gun
c) Harming yourself/suicide
d) Harming others
e) Mentally harming yourself--definite

while a handgun, is an if--if someone finds it and accidentally shoots it.

One joint dose what now?  You're extrapolating the symptoms an awful lot.  The visual distortion isn't substantial unless you start doing much more than what's commonli percieved as one dose.

To me, this is like asking what's more dangerous: Two beers or a gun?  In order to make either of them dangerous you have to combine them with another dangerous activity.
