If the GOP's rise in power continues, it wouldn't surprise me if at some point in the future the Democrats dessolve and form a new party.

I think this will happen if they can't defeat Dumbya this year.
Well, I totally agree that a new party should be formed by the likes of:
Joe Lieberman, Joe Biden, Evan Bayh, Bill Richardson, Mary Landrieu, Wes Clark, Jennifer Granholm etc - D
and
John McCain, Richard Lugar, Lincoln Chafee, Arlen Specter, Colin Powell etc - R
But.. that would be subject for another thread.

I want to further discuss the 2028 GOP Election among Josh22 and Richard M. Nixon
For those who already know them well.. with which current politicians would you compare each of them?
By the way, I never introduced myself properly to this forum:
My real name is Cesar, I'm from Mexico (will be President of Mexico) and I'm studying right now at the LBJ School at UT-Austin.

A party like that would last maybe a few weeks if it's lucky.

Well I don't know much about Nixon or NixonNow as he used to be known. But, Josh22 doesn't believe in evolution or plate tectonics, takes the Bible as totally literal and says that the Roman Empire fell because they were too tolerant of gays so God smited them.

Well, since we haven't heard from the other candidate then Josh22 will be the GOP nominee in 2028 and he apparently will lose in a landslide against the Democratic candidate. Who is he(she)? Is any young, aspiring seeker of the Democratic nomination around here?

Wow. How old are you exactly?

Here is my prediction, along party lines first:

2004: DEM
2008: DEM
2012: DEM
2016: DEM
2020: GOP
2024: DEM
2028: GOP
2032: GOP
2036: GOP
2040: DEM

That's as far out as I'm willing to go, anything after that is really a lot of BS. The line I have is just guessing based on the pendulum theory, applied to party dominance. But we don't follow that directly, and I'm guessing there's going to be some major shakeups in AMerican Politics in the next 40 years. So, add in candidates, and see what changes:

2004: Kerry/Richardson vs. Bush/Guiliani = KERRY
2008: Kerry/Richardson vs. McCain/Powell = MCCAIN
---------Powell dies (natural causes)
2012: McCain/Paul vs.  H. Clinton/Edwards = MCCAIN
2016: Edwards/Obama vs. Frist/Coleman = EDWARDS
2020: Edwards/Obama vs. Coleman/Allen = EDWARDS
2024: Obama/Herseth vs Coleman/Pawlenty = COLEMAN
2024:Coleman/Pawlenty vs Newsom/Jackson =COLEMAN
---That's Jesse Jackson Jr., and Sen Norm Coleman/Gov. Tim Pawlenty, both of MN.
2028: Newsom/Jackson vs. HuhHuh = ???GOP?Huh
2032: Obama/Richardson vs. Huh?? =  OBAMA
2036: Obama/Richardson vs.  Huh?? = OBAMA
2040: Richardson/Jackson vs. ???GOP??? = RICHARDSON

lol. This is really a lot of bull, but I think a Kerry vs. McCain race would do far more to heal this country than a Kerr/McCain ticket would.

Cool, good exercise.. at least not gerontocratic politicians. Who is that Richardson in 2040?

Anyway, my prediction:

2004: GOP
2008: DEM
2012: DEM
2016: DEM
2020: DEM
2024: GOP
2028: GOP
2032: DEM
2036: DEM
2040: DEM
2044: GOP

This is purely a judgement from history, the Presidency seems to swing in 36 year cycles between the two parties while the other hold one two-term President in each (Wilson, Eisenhower and Clinton). 1896-1932 it was the Republicans who dominated with Wilson interjected in a two term Presidency. 1932-1968 it was the Democrats who dominated with Eisenhower interjected in a two term Presidency and from 1968-2008 (there is a reason for 40 years) will be the Republican dominance with Bill Clinton interjected as a two term President.

Now, the reason that the third cycle is 40 years is because of Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter disrupted the cycle so we have had one more Democratic term than history suggests we should, this is why this cycle lasts an extra 4 years.

Wilson was elected 16 years after the cycle began.
Eisenhower was elected 20 years after the cycle began.
Clinton was elected 24 years after the cycle began.
I have gone with 16 years after the cycle begins but I think it could be anywhere from then (2024) till 28 years after it begins (2036) which would mean finishing a cycle with the Republicans and sliding into the next cycle.

This is purely from a historical viewpoint so is probably quite unlikely however.

My crystal ball tells me the next few presidents will be.

44th President John F. Kerry 2005-2009 - Defeats Bush/Cheney in 2004

45th President William H. Frist 2009-2017 - Defeats Kerry/Edwards in 2008 and Edwards/Ford Jr. in 2012

46th President John S. Edwards 2017-2001 - Will defeat Bill Owens/Jeb Bush in 2016 election

Anyone disagree?

I think your crystal ball is broken.
