Yeah, this sounds a bit deja vu, but now here's where stuff gets really weird.

The Republican was Lowell Weicker, and he would win 3 terms before losing to Lieberman.
The pro-war Democrat running as an Independent was Tom Dodd, father of current US Senator Chriss Dodd.
The anti-war Democrat was supported by Joe Lieberman.

This poll ought to make a few people's heads explode.

I would've voted for the anti-war Democrat. How the hell can someone still be "Pro-War" in 1970, well after the Tet Offensive and during the Vietnamization Phase?

I think the same could be asked about the Iraq war in 2006. Polls are similar in both cases for support of the war.

The anti-war Democrat was supported by Joe Lieberman.
It would be even funnier if he had been the anti-war Democrat himself, but I suppose he was too young in 1970... Smiley

Not that I am pro war, but to point out a fact, the Tet Offensive actually was a massive failure for the communists.  Their temporary gains had them stretched too thin and we inflicted heavy damage on them after that. They lost far more ground then they had gained.  Of course, the war was unwinnable before we got into it in '64 anyway.

I would have voted for Dodd, unless the race was close between Weicker and Duffey with Dodd running third (was this the case?) in which case I'd vote for Duffey.

Militarily, the Tet Offensive was a U.S. victory, but psychologically, it was a severe blow to the war effort. It's just pretty suprising that the people would still be pro-Vietnam War come 1970.

The Tet Offensive was a massive failure for the Communists, from a military standpoint.
