Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (SD)

Rumor has it that the former Senator is pondering a White House run. How far would he get in the primaries, and if he won the nomination, who in the Republican party could he beat?

Dalshe is a joke, I'd give him maybe 2% in the primaries.

How far would he get in the primaries?
Decimated in the Iowa caucuses and humiliated in New Hampshire.
If he won the nomination, (What?), who in the Republican Party could he beat?
Governor Bob Taft.

Well, Bill Clinton did lose his bid for reelection for Governor of Arkansas in 1980, and Richard Nixon lost his race for Governor of California in 1962 after having lost the Presidential race in 1960, and both came back to be elected President. And one could argue that Daschle only losing by 2 points in South Dakota, one of the most Republican states in the country against a strong Republican candidate in a strong Republican year was actually pretty impressive; he did far better than Kerry did in the state.
However, I agree that Daschle would not be a strong candidate at all.

Everybody seems to be in agreement, that Daschle would get taken to the cleaners.

He'd have a hard time winning the primaries, but he probably could pull off a win in the GE.
