I think we should host a series of 1 on 1 debates. We could use this thread to set up the debates, and then make sperate threads for the debate to happen in. I got the idea from another forum, and it seems to work pretty well there. Anyone got an itch for a political duel, with no interferences?

Also, if this catches on, could I get this pinned?

I like the idea.  It's about time the forum started talking about relevant issues.

This could be very good for the forum... I dunno if most of the forumites have the patience for it, but good luck to you.

It certainly could be interesting, although I'm not sure how debate is necessarily helped by having only two people post. I think a wider range of opinons is better, but it would be interesting to have one on one debates for a time frame of say a week, and then we vote on the winners after that or some such. Maybe even in the style of a single elimination tournament with the winners advancing on down the bracket. The rules could be that each person is only allowed to post once and then the other one posts once, alternating back and forth.

First we'd need to take applications and then make a bracket, probably of 16 members.

I agree. Maybe 4 for each major ideology? (Populist, Libertarian, Conservative, Liberal)

I'd love to help set this up and maybe help judge or participate.  How would we do judging?-->Or is this just endless debates?

If anyone wants to PM me if they're interested I'll keep track of the names.

So we're not doing this with the same number for each ideology?

Me + Dibble + Emsworth + M&C + Colin + Alcon + Bullmoose = 7 libertarian-ish posters, not 4.

Well obviously we have to wait and see who says yes, but I thought we should go with skill and activity, rather than just ideology.

There are plenty of other skilled debators not on that list. You should probably not include those who haven't expressed interest, rather than picking who you think are the best- personal bias can get in the way.

Those are simply people who I thought would be more interested.  I am hoping others would join.

I will be gone from Saturday-next Sunday, so count me out until I get back--after that I'm still in.  (But I do work, so I'm normally not on from like 12-5)
