I find it interesting how many of those opposed to the U.K entering in the '70's are now pro-E.U, while many of those who supported entering are now Europhobes (I won't use that absurd euphamism "eurosceptic"...).

I think the EU needs to be encouraged and developed further into a US style of union.  The only problem is that, unlike the US which were self-governing colonies under one foreign power, Europe contains some of the oldest modern nations, which might prevent to cohesion which the US experiences in their union.  However, I think a powerful EU would be a great balance to the global community.

Doesn't seem to know what it wants at times. The enlargement to 25 countries may well have struck a death blow to the idea of ever-tightening union, which is unfortunate, not to mention not worth it.

Excellent.  Great ideas that set an example for the rest of us to follow.  I love it.

Fairly successful (waits for Bono to show up Grin ) economic union (more or less) but they are never going to have a common (read: French) foreign and military policy. Ever. The attempt by Chirac and Schroder went down in flames, and that was that. The EU faces a pretty serious problem in regards to Russia and their energy supplies, though...

Let's make a deal. I'll say I'm an "europhobe" and you'll say you're an european imperialist. After all, no need for these "ridiculous euphemisms". Deal?

Any international organization that extradites people to other countries to face criminal charges over "blasphemy" ought to be disbanded.

Yes! More rivalry and less co-operation between European countries! That's just what the world needs. Roll Eyes

I don't see what an arrogant bureocracy that produces thousands of pointless regulations a year and suffocates the european economy has anything to do with cooperation.

LOL, I guess. But in earnest, we've made some progress - it's better we leech off each other than invade each other or beat each other with sticks as we used to for 2.000+ years. Wink
