Pat Buchanan, believe me no one is going to vote for David Duke.  Even if someone wanted him, he was soooooo unelectable.

George H W Bush, easily.

Pat Buchanan has some good points, not all, but some, and is an extremely effective public speaker.

David Duke has no redeeming qualities.

I would have voted Buchanan as a protest at that time. This was before I knew of some of Buchanan's unacceptable views on Jews as to why I would not support him today.

Duke just sucks, and today he's no longer a Republican. Thank God.

Maybe that was because he was a rascist and a member of the KKK? That usually makes someone unelectable.

Anyway Bush.

You would hope. Then again Robert KKK Byrd isn't the flaming rascist that David Duke is.

If Byrd were still active in the Klan, as Duke was (Duke in fact was the Grand Wizard, the national head of the organization), he wouldn't have been electable, either.

Lots of past segregationists and racists like George Wallace, Strom Thurmond, and Robert Byrd later denounced it.

Bush, who is at least tolerable (and did some good things as President, too). The other two choices are awful.

Bush Sr or Buchanon would both be a million times better than the fools in office now.  Duke would probably be an equal trade.

You should provide a "not a republican" option in a poll like this. (I like to vote, even if it doesn't affect the results here Smiley)

This was a very common sentiment among GOPers during the primary. He was known from TV and didn't exhibit ethnic animosity. GHWB had angered many in his party with the reversal on tax policy.
