CT:
Jodi Rell possibly w/the Dems splitting between Lamont and Lieberman
All a strong Republican in that race would have done, in all probability, is throw the election to Lamont.

The man is a complete Rino. I somehow can't see the Rep donors lining up to make that Senate seat competitive while throwing his House seat to the dems. (After all, a Dem takeover of the Senate was viewed as extremely unlikely/impossible until quite late in election season.)

Harris was an extremely weak candidate o/c, but in a year as Democratic as this one, barring a major scandal Nelson was safe even against a top tier challenger. He just wouldn't have been able to amass an impressive margin. Rather like Menendez. Smiley

I doubt that. Not that it would have mattered much, though.

Lots of people would have been better.

Certainly better than his primary opponent.

Nobody would have *killed* him, but yeah, a really top tier opponent would have made this race competitive.

Of course he wasn't. Doesn't want to ruin his career by taking on one of the two races in the entire country that he had no chance in.

Maybe. Probably not. He would have made a race out of it though.

I don't know much about Sheldon Whitehouse, but from what I know about RI, it hardly mattered as long as it wasn't a complete loon. Chafee basically lost to Generic Democrat rather than to Sheldon Whitehouse. He would have probably won as an Independent.

No. A white man from the center of the state (and Ford clone on the issues) would have won.

I forget... who was the Rep candidate there?

I doubt that.
