I am voting for Kweisi Mfume because I would like to see another black, elected Democrat in the Senate and also because I believe he is a good speaker and his past history and experiences make him a good candidate.  I believe he can win the race against Michael Steele also.

It shouldn't matter what color a Democratic candidate is. He could be sky-blue-pink with yellow dots on for all I care

I'd vote for Cardin, who will defeat Steele. I'm not for taking risks with what should be a safe Democratic Senate seat, so Mfume would have no chance with me in the primary. Of course, if the nominee, I hope he does win and, indeed, I'd vote for him as the Democrat

I agree in principle that diversity for diversity's sake is wrong, i.e. I am no supporter of Steele or Blackwell, or Swann.  But I think both Mfume in Maryland and Ford in Tennessee would be good Senators.  Of course, I would support Cardin as well but he doesn't seem to have been particularly energetic in this campaign.

I'm sure Ford would be and I wholeheartedly support him. Indeed, I'd like to think that the color of his skin was no handicap to him being elected junior senator for Tennessee. Race carries too much saliency in politics, southern politics in particular

I'm not even lukewarm on Mfume, however, essentially because I think he may lose what should be a shoe-in

Cardin (normal).  Mfume is a fringe candidate.

Which is why I lean to Cardin.  I think either can win in November, but I can say with more conviction that Cardin probably (not definitely) will win, while Mfume would have a tighter race.   I will support the primary winner enthusiastically in the general, regardless of who it is.

Cardin, just because he has a better chance of winning.  Otherwise, I would vote for Mfume.

Cardin, mainly because I don't want a tight general election.

I'm surprised Republicans aren't voting for Josh Rales. Rales is the one Democrat Michael Steele could actually beat.

I was kidding, though, Mfume has impressed me over the past couple weeks.  The guy is extremely charismatic.  I can see why he is competitive despite being outspent by something like 20 to 1.

It says only Democrats are supposed to vote in this poll.

Obviously I voted Mfume.

I'd vote for a sky-blue-pink candidate with yellow dots any day!

Mfume, since I think his chance of beating Steele is basically the same as Cardin's.

I agree with Harry.  I think Mfume would be an excellent Senator, who would represent the people of Maryland well, in addition to bringing a different voice to the Senate.  He may poll a bit behind Cardin right now, but I think his numbers will go up after the primary.  I'd vote for him if I could.
