First (major city) mayor born in the 80s, I assume?

70sers still aren't too common.

I'm sorry to hear about O'Connor's death.  I think he is the second or third Pittsburgh mayor to die in office since 1980.

His successor, Council President Luke Ravenstahl was suppose to have been worn in this evening.  Ravenstahl graduated from high school in 1998, so he's probably in his mid-twenties.

I hate to see anyone die like that. It will be a happy day on this planet when cancer is forever eliminated.

Very sad day for Pittsburgh.  The best coverage is probably on the Pittsburgh Post Gazette website for anyone who is interested.  Ravenstahl (is that right?) was sworn as mayor.  However, people are unsure when the next election will be, as the charter in unclear.  Here are the three possibilities:

1. May 2007 - No primaries, party committees would each nominate a candidate, meaning whoever the Democratic committee nominated would become the next mayor.

2. November 2007 - Election held 2 years early.  Primaries would be in May.  However, the positions of mayor and I believe City Controller (might be another position) cannot be eleted in the same year according to the charter, and since the city controller election is up in 2007, this is unlikely.

3. November 2009 - Next scheduled election.

Ravenstahl is unlikely to run.  Hopefully, David Caliguiri (son of the last mayor who died in office and personal friend of my family) will run.  He's around 34 years old I think.

I just heard news on the election.  City lawyers say there shouldn't be an election until 2009, but the Democratic committee wants an election in November 2007 (but once again the City Controller is being elected then, so it goes against the charter).

He's 26 FYI, and his name is Luke Ravensthal.

I really liked Bob O'Connor, and had the priviledge of meeting him once, while I was moving into my apartment in Pittsburgh. He was on the street, and we shook hands.
