This race was in the bag for the GOP since Murkowski lost the primary convincingly.

This race is probably over.  Palin is personable and would be a stretch to connecct to Murkowski.

Who knows, the Dems think they can connect Kean to Bush, which is impossible, so Palin to Murkowski might be.

In 1990 he lost the gubernatorial race against the AIP (libertarian secessionst party) candidate, with the Republican finishing 3rd. He was elected in 1994 narrowly beating the Republican with 43% of the vote. In 1998 he beat the Republican 51-18. Winning an open seat in 1994 is impressive but his percentages aren't all that good.

According to Wikipedia Knowles 1998 win was partly due to the fact that the Republican candidate imploded and was actually beaten by the loser in the GOP primary, who announced a write-in campaign a week before the election.

Knowles already was defeated two years ago and running a second time might be too much to bear. Usually, when people are defeated when they run a second time, they are in a weaker position than they were last time. Just ask Erskine Bowles. Knowles lost to Lisa Murkowski and that weakened his position now.

Palin has good character and fits well with the political leanings of Alaska. Knowles, on the other hand, is a Democrat in a very very red state...lost this job once already...and still has to live up to that hilariously goofy ad from awhile back. It's in the bag for Palin.

He didn't lose his job as Governor, he resigned because of term limits. Unless you count the 1990 election.

That is still a stretch, because he wasn't governor before then. Losing as a challenger is not losing the job, since he didn't have it. Also, he lost against a 3rd party, but actually beat the Republican.

I did word it bad, but what I was getting at is that he has lost before and will lose again. The fact that people chose a 3rd party when faced with a poor GOP candidate rather than Knowles should really say something. Palin is a good candidate, I just don't think Knowles has it in him. Maybe he should have donated money to the Murkowski campaign.
