"The Republican Party broke its longstanding policy of not taking sides in primary races......"

LOL. Who is the moron who wrote that editorial? National republicans have been handpicking their fav candidates in primaries for forever. Both parties do it.

Look at the RI Senate race. How can anyone claim that they have a longstanding policy of not taking sides?

Dean you really should look at the details.

First, the RSCC is funding Chafee, not the RCCC.

Second, Chafee is an incumbent, whereas there is NO incumbent seeking reelection in CD 8 in Arizona (the incumbent decided not to seek renomination as he justifiably feared getting defeated in the primary).

New information:

I just got done talking with a friend of mine at the RNC.

He told me that yes, there is considerable pressure from some Republicans to throw this year's congressional election (at least in the House), with the logic that the prospective committee chairs for the Democrats are so far out in left field that they will remind Americans of why they voted Republican in previous elections.  In short, lose now to win in 2008.
