He already won the seat? Great! We don't need to waste the money on the election then.

We really don't. Steele will get money and man power (and he deserves it) but we have to focus on other races now. This one is almost totally out of our reach.

Phil is right.  Sanity prevailed in Maryland.  Democrats there rejected a crazy fringe candidate that only would have hurt their chances of keeping the Senate seat.  With Cardin as the official nominee, that seat is pretty much as good as his.  No matter how well Steele does in more conservative areas like western Maryland, St. Mary's County, and the Eastern Shore, he will not be able to overcome Cardin's huge support in the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas.  And don't believe blacks will be voting in huge numbers for Steele.  I think Prince George's County will also go strongly for Cardin.

Of course I wouldn't mind seeing the RSCC pouring money into this race, but for the sake of the Republican Party I should think this would just be a waste of your time.

Well of course he hasn't yet, but I do believe he will win.

Good lord, Mfume is neither "crazy" nor "fringe". He would be a much better Senator than Cardin, but Cardin won because he was more electable.

Mfume blows Cardin away in terms of charisma and ideas.

If you go tot he maryland board of eletions they have a county site, which breaks down county offices, not sure if they have listing for state offices though.

Of the counties they have up (all except Baltimore City, Prince Georges, Montgomery) Mfume only won Charles county, although a couple of others seem to have been fairly close.

I'm sure that Mfume won big in Baltimore and Prince Georges... I don't know about Montgomery.

The map will probably look very similar to the 2004 general:

I'd doubt Mfume did well in Baltimore County.

The map will probably look very similar to the 2004 general:

Cardin won Montgomery County, with 55% to Mfume's 28%.  Josh Rales, a county resident, got only 6%.

This does not include the many provisional ballots that were cast here, as the screwup of the polling machines early in the morning forced many voters to cast such ballots.  But I don't think they'll change the overall picture in the statewide races much.  They might alter the results of some of the close local or state legislative races, however.

Rob's links now has all counties but PGs and AA in. Mfume wins Baltimore city (2:1 - similar to Cardin's margin in Montgomery) and Charles. Baltimore county went for Cardin, but it was actually quite close. Perhaps a Baltimore vs DC thing.

Remember that Cardin's district is mostly in Baltimore county.

Both Cardin and Mfume come from Baltimore City or its near suburbs, so geography doesn't explain it very well.

Cardin won Baltimore County 55-30; not what I'd call quite close.  He also won Anne Arundel 57-26.  Mfume won Prince George's 70-19.  (Results from the individual counties' Board of Elections sites.)

My bad.
I accidentally compared Cardin's Baltimore County vote with Mfume's Baltimore City vote.

Peter Franchot has apparently won the Democratic nomination for Comptroller with 96% of precincts reporting:

Why do you dislike Schaefer so much?  Most Republicans in the state adore him.  I dont remember his days as Mayor of Baltimore, but Ive heard he was an excellent Mayor.  Pretty poor Governor, though.

Because he called the eastern shore (one of my favorite places in MD) an outhouse.

It does in the split between Baltimore County and City. Doesn't Mfume's former district incliude most of Baltimore City, while Cardin's includes the rest and a good chunk of Baltimore county?

The now complete results show that Mfume only won Baltimore City, Prince George's County, and Charles County.

Given that PG County, Mont Co and B-more City are all about 50% in, I'd say that Cardin ends up winning this thing by about 15,000 votes, give or take a few thousand.

I like to brag about my ability every once in a while.  Here's one post that nails it, reposted above.

The current results are, with 99.78% reporting and an unknown number of provisional ballots to be counted:

Cardin , Ben    Dem    237,100    43.49
Mfume , Kweisi    Dem    221,939    40.71

Btw, Hotline still correctly points out that Mfume has not conceded.  There's really no way he could make up the margin, but it's interesting.
