Rudy wouldn't stand a chance in the South. Way too liberal.

Against a more liberal Democrat the South would vote for Rudy. Those southern religious right look dumb but they aren't as dumb as you think. They'd rather have a tough on defence Republican than a leftist Democrat, especially if Rudy makes a few concessions to them like Supreme Court nominees and major cabinet positions.

What would happen if the Democrats nominated Lieberman? which way do u think the South would fall then?

Personally i think it would be split between the two.

Since that's about as likely to happen as them picking Dennis Kucinich its nothing more than a hypothetical. In that case I'm guessing the South would be turned off by his Judaism as well as his other liberal positions.

Lieberman is actually a lot more liberal than people think he is. He's a true moderate, but he gets portrayed as being almost a conservative. I think he might run well in the south against Giuliani, but I think Giuliani would win most states.

How can Rudy not win states like Wisconsin, New Mexico, and Arizona, but in Illinois and New York?

I believe it would never look like that, because he is smart enough to know he has to pick a conservative to balance out the ticket, and deliever those states.

I don't understand how the Mountain West would go Democrat in this scenario.  If anything the Mountain West should prefer Rudy MORE than the South not less.  Rudy's moderate/left-leaning social positions put him right in line with the libertarian streak of Western States.
