The Secretary of State Project

Washington Wire notes Democrats "appear to be achieving some success focusing on a lesser-known candidate category: state secretary of states."

"Since mid-August, the San Francisco-based Secretary of State Project has raised about $51,000 to help elect Democrats running for a position whose job description includes being the top election official. The group is trying to elect Democratic candidates to prevent what it says happened in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 when Republicans held the key election posts."

The group is focusing on races in Ohio, Minnesota, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Michigan.
