ANALYSIS

The Maine stop-over ended with another victory for John Mabus, but also another narrow one.  It seems that none of the candidates have thus far been able to pull away significantly.

Mabus's only activity here was to issue two decent speeches, which was probably a wise move given his lack of resources.  With two more Southern states to immediately follow, the Mississippi governor will need to conserve as much time and money as possible.

Alexander Bernstein put in a good show here, producing three high quality speeches and an excellent ad.  However, if that ad had been better funded, or he'd spent more time campaigning around the state, pundits reckon he could actually have pulled the victory from under Mabus's nose.  Nevertheless, he was still within striking distance of a win anyway (only two and a half points), which shows that this race hasn't been decided yet.

Al Widdershins and Alcon Nighthawk both decided against campaigning in Maine, which is somewhat unsurprising given the former's highly localized focus, and the latter's distinct lack of any campaign at all.  Neither managed to win any delegates here tonight.

ANALYSIS

Few real surprises again tonight, with the Southern governor claiming victory in both Southern states contested tonight, and becoming the first candidate so far to win an overall majority.

John Mabus already had a substantial lead before the campaign in these states had really begun, but was bolstered even further by two speeches (both were nothing particularly special) and an ad (mediocre, but well-funded), which he ran in both states.  He now has a formidable lead in momentum and delegates, but he now seems to be coasting through on a limited budget and a fairly lackluster campaign thus far.

Alex Bernstein put in a decent effort in his attempt to undercut Mabus's support, but it was definitely an uphill struggle from the outset.  A slew of speeches and an ad certainly helped, although some voters were experiencing deja vu, having already heard snippets of the same speeches from earlier campaigns elsewhere.  Perhaps some new material could prevent his slow decline?

Al Widdershins put in a token effort solely in Tennessee, spending a negligible ten hours in the state and stopping to make one fairly good speech.  However, he again failed to win any delegates in either state.

Alcon Nighthawk maintained his de facto policy of non-campaigning, and performed accordingly.

ANALYSIS

An interesting result tonight, and a clear sign of how things are really beginning to shape up.  Only one of the four candidates put in any substantial effort in Nevada, and he still finished second by a ten point margin.  That's not to say that all is over already, but it certainly looks like an increasingly steep climb for anybody to overtake John Mabus.

As already mentioned, Mabus was one of the candidates who put in zero effort in this state, and yet he still scored a substantial victory.  Evidently the largest factor for him is now his accrued momentum, which just increased again after tonight.  His rivals will obviously need to work far harder to catch him, but that certainly doesn't mean that he can become complacent.

Alex Bernstein made a reasonable effort to try and cut into Mabus's lead, producing a powerful speech and decent ad.  His campaign organization coped quite well, but could have been put to far better use if there had been more speeches and campaign activities for them to promote, and had perhaps been better funded too.  Pundits reckon that if Bernstein produces a maximum number of speeches and ads at each remaining primary, he could well retake the lead.

Al Widdershins put in a token appearance in the state, and managed to scrape over the threshold in order to earn some delegates.  Alcon Nighthawk again refrained from any activities at all.

ANALYSIS

Another closely fought contest, with only two of the four candidates putting in any real effort, and even the winner receiving only a third of the vote.  It seems there is still all to play for.

Al Widdershins made an astounding effort to ensure a close victory over his rivals, and he was certainly helped by being a resident of neighboring Michigan.  Making labor issues and personal ethics a major theme of his entire campaign is certainly proving to be an effective strategy in the states that he actually campaigns in, and these were the only topics he discussed in his speeches and ads.  But it is fairly safe to say that the nomination will be beyond reach for the minister unless he chooses to broaden his horizons and take his message elsewhere as well.

John Mabus again chose not to visit Wisconsin to perform any campaigning, again storing up his resources for the tough stages ahead.  However, he still came within a few points of winning this primary anyway.  The Southern governor still has a great deal of momentum built up, but evidently he isn't invincible yet.

Alex Bernstein matched Al Widdershins in terms of effort put in, and came within two points of shoving John Mabus into third place.  His speeches on a variety of topics show that he is certainly knowledgeable on a wide field of issues, but his delivery is often a little dry.  In politics, that is often just as important as the message, and sometimes more.  His first ad was very powerful and quite well-funded, but his second ad was more than a little distressing for television.  Still, he's headed in more or less the right direction in the level of campaigning quantity, and while the quality is still good, it could use some improvement too.

Alcon Nighthawk yet again didn't put in any effort in Wisconsin, but somehow one in twenty voters found him more appealing than his three rivals.
