HAWAII, IDAHO
& UTAH RESULTS

HAWAII

With 99% of precincts reporting, I'm pleased to announce that the winner is:

Rep. James Wallace of Virginia!!

The full results are as follows:

Wallace 50.4%   + $1,000,000
Cereal 49.6%   + $500,000

IDAHO

With 99% of precincts reporting, I'm pleased to announce that the winner is:

Gov. Andrew Cereal of Michigan!!

The full results are as follows:

Cereal 52.3%   + $1,000,000
Wallace 47.7%   + $500,000

UTAH

With 99% of precincts reporting, I'm pleased to announce that the winner is:

Gov. Andrew Cereal of Michigan!!

The full results are as follows:

Cereal 55.4%   + $1,000,000
Wallace 44.6%   + $500,000

ANALYSIS

A slightly surprising result tonight, with Wallace managing to upset Cereal in Hawaii by the slightest of margins.  It would appear that many voters are beginning to re-evaluate their support for the frontrunner, and consider the underdog instead, who is simply the better campaigner by far.  But is it too late already?

Cereal's speech on gay marriage played moderately well in Hawaii, but may come back to hurt him elsewhere later on.  The "Anti-Pork" speech was his best in this round, but it was still only just above average, and the speech he gave in Idaho and Utah that attempted to define himself from Wallace was okay, but was a little jumbled in its delivery.  His ad in Idaho was also fairly mediocre, but was well-funded enough to make a significant impact.  You might say that the main thing his material lacks is clarity.  Considering that Cereal owes much of his current success to Chris Soult's weighty endorsement, he really should be performing much better than this.

Jim Wallace again put in a sterling effort into all three states, but his lack of resources is really starting to limit his reach.  There is really nothing to criticize about his speeches, or the 'Maverick' ad he used (which was received extremely well in Hawaii).  As already mentioned, Wallace is the better campaigner, but lucks out when it comes to time, resources and delegates.  However, his momentum is starting to pick up again after his surprise upset in Hawaii, but the question is whether it'll be enough to pull through to the end.

DELEGATE COUNT

Hawaii

Wallace: 5
Cereal: 5

Idaho

Cereal: 11
Wallace: 11

Utah

Cereal: 16
Wallace: 13

TOTALS

Cereal: 259
Wallace: 139
Soult: 158 ( -> Cereal)
Calhoun: 48 ( -> Cereal)
Vandervoot: 18 ( -> Soult)
Wixted: 11 ( -> Cereal)
Arage: 6 ( -> Soult)

Unaffiliated: 120

ANALYSIS

Another dramatic result tonight, with Jim Wallace pulling another series of surprising upsets over frontrunner Andrew Cereal in four of the ten states contested.  Cereal still has a clear advantage in the delegate count, but is now in severe danger of having his momentum scrape to a halt in the face of Wallace's resurgent campaign.

Cereal won another six primaries tonight, including the delegate-rich California, New York and Ohio.  His best results were in Ohio and Minnesota, where he benefitted from being a fellow Midwesterner; a factor that might have led his opponent to skip these states completely.  However, his margins in his other states were fairly disappointing; ranging from 7 points at best to 2 points at worst.  His 21 point margin of defeat in Maryland will no doubt be an embarrassment also.  There appears to be two main reasons for the diminishing strength of his campaign recently, which are a lack of consistency and a lack of focus.  Whether it be to reserve time and resources, or sheer complacency, but the decision to put a little effort in some states and none in others is probably not the best overall strategy.  Also, his message is still not hitting all the right notes with conservative audiences.  Talking about individual freedom and family values as concepts is fine, but not really outlining an agenda or specific policies except "upcycling" is not so good.  Cereal will have a challenge to stay ahead with such shaky efforts so far.

Jim Wallace again put in an astounding effort, pulling four upset victories from under Andrew Cereal.  He appeared in eight of the ten states and produced a maximum number of speeches and a few ads too; although all of those were recycled or repeated from elsewhere.  Still, all of them were of top quality, especially the clear agenda outlined in 'My First Hundred Days' and the comparisons between himself and Cereal in 'The Vast Difference' and 'What He Offers'.  Quality has never been a problem for James Wallace, and he has delivered a winning effort and strategy so far.  All he needs to do to secure the nomination is keep up the effort in order to close the gap.

ANALYSIS

With the latest results in, the whole race seems to be clearly shifting in Jim Wallace's favor, at least for now.  The congressman won all Southern states contested tonight, no doubt greatly helped by being from Dixie himself.  The race is now neck and neck, with Wallace picking up a great deal of momentum tonight, and Cereal losing some of his own.

Once again, Wallace put in an exhaustive effort, producing a maximum number of speeches in each state.  They all covered a variety of topics, and rarely strayed off-message.  His attacks on Andrew Cereal remained persistent, and as a result he is in danger of making negativity become one of the defining points of his campaign.  Still, despite taking a great deal of momentum away from Governor Cereal, Wallace will need to aim to start increasing his margins of victory, as well as just aiming to win at all.  He still lags behind Cereal in the delegate totals.

Andrew Cereal tried hard to regain his strength in these states, especially in the far larger Florida and Texas.  The speeches he gave this time were much improved on his previous efforts, and provided a much more coherent message than before.  That said, his speech on 'federalism' was the weakest, in that he took an item of jargon and tried to explain it with even more jargon.  This went over many of the voters' heads, who hadn't expected to be lectured on philosophical ideological concepts.  Cereal also spent a lot of time in the large states, but it unfortunately didn't seem to have helped him a great deal.  There is still a big chance for Cereal to regain the lead, and he retains more delegates than his opponent, but he'll need to win the next stage convincingly if he's to keep his supporters on board.
